Topic: Crazy idea re: Remaster rumors

Just a crazy idea I have been kicking around. It's worth noting that I was initially very skeptical of the remasters rumors, but now for a few reasons now I feel a lot more confident that they're coming. But that didn't stop me from dreaming up this scenario...

... there can always be a nugget of truth to an incorrect rumor. For example, remember when there was the nutty one before Switch launched that MK, Splatoon, and Smash would all be ported quickly? Sounded ridiculous. But then, there was MK8D shortly after launch, Splatoon 2 a couple of months later, and Smash Ultimate a relatively fast follow as well (less than 2 years in was still pretty quick). So the initial rumor was wrong, but it also was kinda right too.

So my thought is, what if Mario Remasters aren't coming... but a walk through Mario's history, in game form, is? One thing we've never seen Nintendo do is a time travel story in which you time travel through their own games of the past. Think: in the MCU, this season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., or in Avengers: Endgame. They traveled back through various parts of the now-rich Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Back to the Future 2 and 3, they went back to a couple of parts of the classic original film. Well now, with 35 years worth of Super Mario, there is a heck of a walk down memory lane that they could take.

But how does that work out as a game? Well, from a story perspective it's easy: if this is Super Mario Odyssey 2, he can just use the Odyssey. Now instead of traveling between worlds, he travels between eras - or, games. And perhaps the capture mechanics are along for the ride, and he can use them in the various worlds of the past.

Probably won't happen, but I think it would be pretty cool.

One game that’s a sampler from each era? And you travel through time for each world? I would hope you could move about each game freely. I would hate a linear progression.

I’d like it to be a warped nightmare version where you visit the most hated parts of history. It starts as Mario Time Machine to go back for a game of Mario Tennis on the Virtual Boy, then to Mario Party Advance followed by a night over at Mario Hotel where he meets his counterpart from Paper Mario Sticker Star which is all building to the climatic end fight of The Super Mario Bros movie.

A platformer game called Super Mario History. Each world has 8 iconic levels from different Mario platform games from Super Mario Bros. to New Super Mario Bros. to Super Mario 3D World. Different than your idea, but this would also be cool.

Honestly, any Mario game that’s not a port will never be the same as Mario’s only hat now is Cappy.

Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.

So, basically Sonic Generations... But Mario.

Lol yeah I'd really just prefer HD remasters of the original games with minor graphical improvements for 64 and Sunshine, and Galaxy 2 has to be included.
That's really all I want!

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Never heard of it (I can’t stand Sonic) but a quick look at the Wikipedia entry and sounds to be along the same lines!

That's a cool idea, I'd definitely prefer that to regular remasters.
