Topic: COD on Switch, I am freaking out soo much right now!!!!

I am so super hyped right now upon hearing about the tweet from Phil Spencer (Microsoft) stating that (I paraphrase) ' after the 2023 merger of Microsoft and Activision/blizzard-King Microsoft has committed to releasing on Nintendo, Call of Duty titles for 10 years'

Now yes I realize that there are a few potential issues to bring up and discuss.

1.) If the merger is blocked by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) (which Sony really really wants to happen) due to the merger being anti-consumer and/or anti-competitive what happens to COD coming to a Nintendo platform? After all if there is no merger the decision would be up to Activision/Blizzard -King.

2.) If the merger were to happen in June 2023 as planned and then Microsoft starts to either make the next COD title for play on Nintendo or port an earlier version of COD (my hope would be Black ops 2 and 4 for the zombies modes or the Battle Royale Warzone 2.0) would sny of the COD series be able to run on the Nintendo switch as it is now without the COD game being one of the cloud gaming things? ( Which would disqualify me from playing it at all). On a side note to this point Phil Spencer stated in a recent interview regarding if COD would run on Switch that he made the comparison to Minecraft being tweaked and altered so that it was able to run on Switch.

3.) If the next COD were announced to be on Nintendo in say 2024. Activision has stated that from Modern warfare 2 on COD will be on a 2 year development cycle instead of the yearly releases of the past 10 or so years. That would put the next COD game say Black ops 5 in the 2024/2025 release window. That time frame would allow for Nintendo to either release the talked about Switch Pro or the follow up Switch 2. Those two 'new' systems would (I hope) be far more powerful and thus able to handle playing a COD game?

Regardless of anything I am so super pumped and excited for the possibility of playing any COD game (yes even the abominations that were the 'advanced movement' COD games or the stupid COD WW II).

Sorry I double posted this Topic. After I tried to post first time I got some sort of cloudflare error and I thought the posting failed my bad lol.

The only hope for the Switch is a port of sone older games, maybe a collection of single player campaigns from around 2010 - 2015?

Don't really get the point of this. The vast majority of people who own a Switch will own at least one other console which they can already play Call of Duty on. They really don't need to be bringing watered down COD ports, or god forbid, cloud versions to Nintendo.

Eh, this announcement is fine for competitive multiplayer fans I suppose.

Personally, I haven't cared about the franchise in over a decade, lol.

Good points made by those who replied, but in response to Type_Trubbish, there are some switch users who either can't afford the current gen hardware from Sony (PS5 500$+tax) Microsoft (Xbox series S I believe 500$) or a PC/Laptop that at minimum has 8 to16 GB RAM, plus decent end graphics/sound card, and good processor (I barely know anything about PC/Laptop specs and such) that will run the player a minimum of 1000$ or they like myself wouldn't be able to play a COD game on a TV screen for whatever reason. Also the fact that you could play COD on the go anywhere you want (provided you have access to a really good WiFi signal l) as compared to all other options being at home only.

@Magician truthfully I don't care about COD in the competitive sense (I'm 44 have beyond terrible reflexes, hand eye coordination and eyesight lol) so in the competitive COD League sense COD isn't for me. But I'd love to play the aiether storyline again (zombies), and would love to play warzone 2.0 just for fun trying to camp and hide my way to a lucky as heck Battle Royale victory as I do in Fortnite and Apex legends.

From a library perspective this puts Nintendo a little more in line with everyone else. Which is good for sales. I’m more curious to find out if this means blizz/ms will get a dev kit for the successor early or make specs suggestions. I’m not wanting a portable series x but if Nintendo tries to meet devs halfway with specs the it puts the onus on the devs to deliver good games to the platform.

The only thing that would get me more psyched, excited, and hyped then COD on Switch would be the announcement of Fallout series coming to Switch.

So where does it say that it will be on Switch?? I am thinking Switch's replacement will more like be where they start CoD on a Nintendo system.

@Tasuki I mentioned that possibility in area 3 of my original post. I don't believe that the Nintendo switch would be able to run COD MWII as the switch is now. Previous entries in the COD series yes they could be played on switch. The Wii U was able to play COD BO2 and COD Ghosts at the same level as the PS3 was able to.

@Tasuki likely on the successor. The merger actually has to go through and then internal restructuring and the dev work starts. So 2025-2026.

And? Nintendo Network are some garbage from 2007 and yet they shall release it on switch which has the worst online of all time. That’s just dumb

@AppleroseGrace Yeah don't get me wrong I know not everyone can afford a brand new console, that's one of the reasons I haven't upgraded my base PS4 yet, I just meant my experience in real life and online is that most people tend to have more than one console, and you can still play the new COD's on a PS4 or Xbox One.

I know there's obviously Nintendo purists out there who will only play Nintendo games/consoles but they're in the small minority I would say. For example I probably wouldn't buy a game on Switch that I could buy on playstation, I like Nintendo for the exclusives like Pokemon and Zelda etc. However there are some games on both consoles I think would work better handheld or with portability added in, Hades for example.

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well. Even bring older CoDs to the Switch doesn't seem likely as again by the time the dusts settles from the deal Nintendo more then likely will have moved on from the Switch.

Well with Sony and Jim Ryan being a crying little bitch, it looks like this isn't going to happen with the FTC filing a lawsuit against MS.

@Tasuki I wouldn't be too worried. Biden's FTC, as far as I'm aware, hasn't enjoyed a high success rate with these sorts of lawsuits in recent years. The admin mainly just wants to look tough on big tech.

@Ralizah We shall see I guess. If anything, I think it will delay it. The thing that cracks me up is how much Sony is manipulating everyone right now but yet MS is the bad guy.
