Topic: Child or main account to only child?

I’m giving a seven year old a seitch for her birthday. I don’t have any reason to tie more units but this single one to the account. What I wonder is if I missed any clear benefits of a child account in this scenario or if I just as well can set up a main account only and use with the parent control app?

Sorry, just wanted to clarify but you’re wondering if you should make your child’s account the main one, or just have it as a secondary account, right?

Yes, is there a point in creating a family group when no one but her will use it for gaming (with me administrating the account)? Or will I be just as fine with a main account?

Ok. It should be fine as the main account, especially if it’s just her using it. The main account is the one that can change the most settings. Also, whatever games/DLC she buys on her account (if it’s the primary/main) will allow other users to play them. Otherwise if hers was a secondary, at least the DLC she bought would not be available to anyone else. So, no there’s not much of a point in making a family account if no one but her will really use it. Hope this helped.

@SmashBall35 Many thanks, much appreciated! Then I’ll go with the main account. Happy new year! 😊

You can have multiple accounts on the Switch but there has to be at least one main account if you want to buy eShop games. Also remember each accounts needs a NIN account if they want access to eShop and for parents to control access to the account by smart phone app. This is where a family conversation takes place about how to use the eShop and what they can expect from it. It's better they have their own account based on their age so that it restricts unwanted content-this is the main reason for children under 13.
