Today I tried to redeem points from my few physical japanese games, so I changed my region, made sure it was set in Japan and did the usual, but an error message keeps prompting.
With some games it says that the points have already been redeemed (not true, it's the first time I change my region to Japan and I bought them sealed) and with others it just says their region and my account don't match.
Does anybody know where the problem is and care to help me, please? Thanks in advance.
Did you change your NIN online account to Japan region. If you didn't do this it will not work and when you change Region you will have to login your Switch to set the Region. And then do reverse to switch it back to your Region after your done. If you don't do this it will not work.
@Moroboshi876 Maybe this is your issue? A year after a game releases, points are no longer redeemable. I encountered the issue in August; I bought Crash Bandicoot Trilogy physical, brand spankin' new. I didn't know why I couldn't redeem the points, so I called Nintendo. Since it was just over a year since the game released, the rep added the points to my account. I don't know when your games released, or if you'll get a rep able to be that generous. The rep asked how much I paid for the game, too, before issuing me the points. They gave me a fair amount of points. Can't recall how many.
@Woomy_NNYes In fact, there is a message before you try it that say 2 years actually. But no, some of the games are from a few months ago. It doesn't make sense.
And the message just says there is a problem of regions not matching. And I made sure I'm "in Japan".

Your NIN Online account must be set to Japan and if your redeeming DLC/Season pass. But I find that games outside of your Region bought Switch will not redeem even if you switch to a Japan account. This only works for DLC or Season Pass only. I have yet to get my JP/EU games to redeem points this is region locked by the Device where it is sold in for a reason.
@SwitchForce So in order for the region change to work I should be trying to redeem DLC/Season pass? It doesn't work with redeeming points with physical Japanese releases? Damn it...
I was counting on those points to get Double Dragon IV for free, because it's 100 yen now, and I won't buy a Japanese eShop card because I almost never want anything digital from there, so the only way that would work for me would be buying stuff just with My Nintendo Points.
I think your Physical Switch is Region locked unless you bought a Japan version Switch. It has most likely has something like GPS recognition or network identification to block non-Region downloads to redeem points.

Mine or every Switch? But I didn't know about this restriction and certainly didn't find anything about this region lock after a lot of searching, official or otherwise.
@Moroboshi876 : You don't need to change the region of your console to redeem Japanese My Nintendo points; you need a user profile linked to a Japanese NNID.
I have both Australian and Japanese NNIDs on my Switch. The Japanese account is used for downloading demos and redeeming any codes that may included with imported physical releases. I think all of my Japanese gold coins have gone to waste though as the amount wasn't enough to spend it on anything worthwhile, and I also didn't want to, for example, buy Smash Mii costumes with those gold coins and split the DLC between the Australian/Japanese accounts.
If the physical game is otherwise available locally, it might be worth checking to see if you can redeem the gold coins with your local account. While I can't remember for sure, the gold coins for Bayonetta 1 cartridge may have been redeemable in the Australian eShop even though a physical release of that was not available outside of Japan. But in most cases, I could only redeem them with my Japanese account.
@Moroboshi876 You can only earn points for Game Card version Only. And it states that on the Switch when you check the My Nintendo Rewards Program. And those counts towards the Gold Coins. I have yet to see anyone show me how you can get points using different region Game Card verison. If so show it on YT for the rest of us.
