Topic: Can you use USB dance mats with Switch games?

Background: my partner loves video games, but has problems with their hands and can't play handheld games for very long. But they can use their legs just fine, so they're wondering if they can get a USB DDR-style mat and play games with that. A new rhythm game is coming out, and we're wondering whether to get it on the Switch or the PS4, and we'd rather get it on the Switch, but I can't seem to get a definitive answer for whether a USB dance mat would even work as a controller on the Switch. I know that a standard dance mat doesn't have nearly enough buttons to map to the standard Switch controls, but if we can use a standard controller in conjunction with a dance mat, even that would give my partner greater accessibility.

So that's my question: can a USB dance mat be used as a connected controller while the Switch is in TV mode?

That's no lie, Anti-matter is the DDR super-fan around these parts.

Unless those hardware are supported it will not work. You should direct our question to Nintendo support they will know more information on what your asking then asking members on here since they aren't Switch support personel.

What is that game ? 😲

I remembered one thing that Switch can accept Gamecube controller (for Switch) with kind of adapter to plugged in the dock so you can play Smash Bros Ultimate with Gamecube controller in dock mode.
So i assumed it will be same thing if you plugged DDR Mat Gamecube / Wii version with adapter to Switch dock.

@SwitchForce I opted on asking actual Switch users instead of the official Switch support team because I recognize that using a dance mat for games that don't require one is an unconventional choice, and one that obviously isn't feasible for games that require the full use of the Switch's 16 buttons and 2 joysticks. I figured that if anybody knew if this was possible, it'd be the users themselves, since that's a far larger pool of people who can and will take creative liberties with the hardware.

Though I suppose I could ask the Switch support team if there's any supported controller that could allow accessibility to somebody who has little to no use of their hands.

@Anti-Matter it's Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories. The trailers I believe show the PS4 controls, which just uses the standard X, O, triangle, and square buttons for the gameplay itself, which is why I thought a dance mat would work just fine for either...assuming the console recognized the button mapping.

We do have the GC adapter, though, so perhaps we will go that route if it turns out the USB version won't work at all.
