Hi guys hoping someone will know if I can back up a second acnh island on a separate system but the same Nintendo account or if I'd need a separate Nintendo account to back up both islands? Thanks in advance!

Seeing as you need an active NSO subscription and an NNID to back-up your island, it would stand to reason that your back-up data is tied to your NNID, and that you can only back up one island at a time per NNID.

You will need to own a second Switch console with a separate NNID if you wish to back up two islands.

If in doubt, you should phone Nintendo Support directly. But I strongly suspect that you're out of luck if you already have two islands tied to the same NNID.

@Spookbait Only one island is permitted per console. If you have a second console and want it to have it's own island, I believe that will require another nintendo account. For cloud save back up, you need another Nintendo Switch Online subscription. In which case, buying the family plan is cheaper than buying two NSO subs. The family plan grants NSO subscriptions for up to 8 nintendo accounts (I think 8 is the limit)). If you already bought one NSO sub, there is an option to upgrade to family plan, but it may only save you a dollar. Next year, though, you can just buy the family plan.

Reminder ACNH doesn't allow cloud saves only on Console saves local.

Only one island per console. The only way to have a second island or more is if you buy another Switch like a lot of people do to have different styles/vibes of islands. Currently, I only have one Switch, and that my one and only island that I have so far is summer-themed. If I want to have another island to parallel what I have, then I'm going to need to buy another Switch, which will cost us nearly $300 if we dare buy another Switch or more to have different islands of different themes. The island backup thing is so you can have your data backed up (and one island per console) in case anything happens to your Switch if it gets lost or broken, or if something causes the software's data to become corrupted and reset without warning.

You can have a different island on a different console under your own account. But I’m not sure about the backups.

Edit: Upon investigating it further, it seems you can also have multiple islands backed up just fine.

5. If you enabled island backup for multiple islands, you will be presented with each island name and some details. Select the island you wish to restore on your Nintendo Switch system, then select Recover Data.
