Topic: Breath of the Wild Naydra scale

I was running around the Laneyru Promenade, when the local dragon (Naydra, I believe) came by. I shot him and something flew off him and landed at a wall nearby. I clibed the wall and collected it and it turned out to be a scale.

So hurray, I thought, and went to the "spring of wisdom" where I tried to figure out how to offer the scale to the spring. I couldn't figure it out. I also checked my inventory to maybe just drop it into the water but the scale was not there.

I went back the the wall along the Promenade but the scale was not there either. I then reloaded am autosave from just before I collected the scale and went up the wall to collect it again but it wasn't there. I reloaded an autosave from just before the dragon appeared but the dragon didn't reappear.

I reloaded an even earlier autosave and the dragon reappeared. After shooting him, the scale again flew to some location closeby. But when I went there (I am certain I was at the exact spot and everywhere around it), the scale was not there.

Is there something odd going on with dragon scales and savegames? And how did I lose the scale? Should it be in my inventory after collecting?

Any ideas?

Dragons appear randomly, so going back to a previous save won't work.

Not sure what happened in the first instance - you collect scales like any other item and it works like any other item when holding it.

Dragons usually appear at certain times, so go to one of the areas where it appears, and wait for it. Light a fire if the wait is to be quite a long one.

Yeah, I'm not sure what happened to you there. Dragon scales don't have any weird properties to them that make them harder to use or anything like that. I've personally never had this problem before while playing the game so this is strange to me.

@Leauki Maybe that challenge or inventory glitched. Here's a video of placing Naydras scale.

Don’t you get the scale to open the shrine from freeing naydra? It’s almost like a tutorial on how to open those shrines.

Or did you free it and then used that scale somewhere else?

@Eel Not sure if this is the right thread for this question, but... I've been meaning to ask you about your profile pic, and I can't resist any longer.

For my portrait, I was told not to face the viewer - in part because the perspective is more interesting, but (in truth) mostly some people wouldn't appreciate the sight of all my teeth. Yet there you are, showing off your pearly whites. Do you find it liberating not to conceal your fishy face?

@Eel I got the scale from shooting at the dragon on the Promenade. Twice. I actually ended up with two scales at the end and needed only one, I sold the other. I don't know why the first one wasn't visible in the inventory during the first attempt. But we were two people looking for it: it wasn't there.

Anyway, next time I saw the dragon I saved and when I loaded the save, the dragon wasn't there, so dragons live outside the save-able world. I wait the night and the dragon re-appeared, I shot him and got what turned out to be my second scale. All good.
