It just seems quite ambitious compared to their other games - even though Bayonetta is very good, it is first and foremost an action beat em up, while this one seems to have a living breathing world with places to explore and lots of depth.
That's one of the things that really attracts me to this game. I must say, the E3 Treehouse sessions definitely sold me even more on Astral Chain than I was already. XD
You also hit on the primary reason why I don't expect to ever play the Bayonetta series. The games are all decent, but I'm just not into button-mashing beat-em-ups. Hyrule Warriors was about my limit on that front.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
Bayonetta 1 and 2 are weird to me because I have a lot of problems with them, and I definitely like Metal Gear Rising and Wonderful 101 more (and Hyrule Warriors for that matter!). But the fact that I enjoyed it a ton despite the game not entirely being for me says a lot about how great it is, that even I think its great. The sheer quality of it overwhelms my biases against it essentially.
This game looks so good, but I don't think I'll be picking it up at launch because I frankly just don't have the time to sink my teeth into a big RPG right now.
Maybe this winter.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
Goodness, I really want this game but I'm just getting started with FE3H so I know it would be a waste to buy it day one. However I hope it does well. Looks fantastic.

This game seems so good. I've only played two of Platinum Games titles before, Bayonetta 1 and 2, but enjoyed them greatly, so I think this will be fun. Plus I enjoy me some investigation as well.
Personally, I think $37 over msrp for a soundtrack and artbook is a bit much. But the game is getting stellar reviews, so I assume this edition will sell through rather quickly.

Some of the first reviews are in and it looks like this game is going to be a winner. The action title has scored a 37 out of a possible 40 points from Famitsu! Famitsu reviews are based on a panel of four reviewers, each giving the game a score out of ten. The full scoring for Astral Chain was 9/10/9/9. I can't wait for this game to come out in 5 days.
@Dezzy it's reviewed really well from what I've seen. But i hear you with having to wait. There's not enough time to fit everything. This however is on my day 1 list though
The review embargo for western media is monday. We don't have reviews yet, except for Japan, which I never know how to interpret given fairly obvious biases towards certain genres (e.g FF13 getting 39/40 in famitsu, and I was one of the people who really liked that game, but that's an insane score)
Wasn't going to buy this Day 1 until I read Damo's review, so now I'm in. But I've also trained myself not to buy things full MSRP and it's hard to find a deal on this anywhere. Will keep looking at Amazon - I have Prime - and they recently dropped another game $10 day after it released. I do have 933 gold coins, will consider digital as well. Or I'll wait until my library gets it in, or Black Friday when it will be $30, Platinum Games games always go on sale rather quickly. Though as a Switch exclusive I suppose this may take awhile. I'd rather not wait, but $60 ain't happening.
Someday we'll find it
