@KirbyTheVampire I kinda know what you mean, when I was watching the Splatoon 2 invitational on Tuesday I felt overly excited, more than on the other two days.
So I'm pretty sure when it's released, it'll probably become my #1 game again (just like Splatoon was), the one game that pushes every other game aside (which also was the case for BotW).
Still, ARMS looks so great, I can envision myself enjoying it (almost?) as much as Splatoon 2.
I already preordered it last week for 55€, which is still 5€ less than the official price.
Of course I'd prefer these two games would still cost me only 35€ like Splatoon (and most Wii U games) did two years ago, but honestly, I'll have so much fun playing them that they're totally worth it. In fact - even though I would've been angry for being exploited - I would've probably even paid more.
So waiting a few years for a small price drop (probably not much more than the price of a few beers) isn't worth it if you ask me. You'll (probbly) be missing out on so much fun in the meantime!
I'll just try to play it as much as possible before Splatoon 2 is out and then we'll see how these two games will compete with each other for my attention.
@-Green- At first glance, and considering he's a boss, it seems that way. But his bulk up mechanic makes him big, like... bigger than Master Mummy. Even if he retains his speed in that state (which I have some doubts of), he still becomes much easier to hit after charging. Add in the risk of his bulk wearing off at inopportune times, and the fact that remaining in his smaller form makes him mostly unable to throw charged punches except by blocking, and using him isn't as easy as it appears.
He is the bruiser of this game, fast and powerful, but from what we can see, fairly linear. He also reminds me of Captain Qwark. Spring Man will still be the choice for those who prefer dodging instead of tanking hits.
There seems to be some sort of connection between the two, given their very similar abilities. Perhaps Max is something of a mentor/idol/chief rival to Spring Man, and thus he trains vigorously to be like him and hopefully surpass him one day. Biff even mentions how Spring Man's main goal in the Grand Prix is to defeat Max, a contrast to almost everyone else who are mostly in it for fame and recognition. Those seem rather secondary to Spring Man.
Seems like I've got faulty Joy-cons. I can barely move sideways (as well as back and forth) and if I manage to get my character slightly moving - it doesn't even work as shown in the introduction - it only works to the left. So if I actually (which is hard by itself, given that my character is pretty much immobile) reach the left end of the stage, I'm pretty much stuck... Similarly, guarding doesn't work as shown in the introduction and pretty much every video on the internet. If my character happens to guard, it happens by accident. My character is basically doomed to fight stationary. Of course I already recalibrated and re-registrated my Joycons, but that didn't help.
Meanwhile, If I put the Joycons into the grip and use the sticks, everything works fine. But I don't want to swing my ARMS with the buttons. Why is there no control option with motion controls for punches and the sticks for movement? After all, the sticks have no other functionality (in motion control mode). Man that sucks. Nintendo used to produce quality products in the past... guess I have to send the Joycons to Nintendo and get it replaced.
@Operative2-0No, not laid flat. I mean in the thumbs-up position. I can easily throw punches in that position and still use the sticks. The only problem is, the sticks are deactivate in that control mode.
Oh wait, now I know what I've been doing wrong! LOL, I've been holding the Joycons with the sticks facing me.
I just realized it after looking at the thumbs up graphic I just put into this post. ^^
Strange though that punching worked fine in that wrong position.
@KirbyTheVampire It's not worth waiting for a price drop, at least if you're at all interested in the online portion. It's better to get these multiplayer titles as soon as possible as paid online will cause problems for everything that's not Mario Kart, Splatoon and Smash.
Is anyone else disappointed we have to wait a full month for the first DLC character. Within the first month, Splatoon got THREE brand new stages- I was hoping the DLC would be more of a steady flow.
Hopefully the roster will reach at least 15-20 (with 15-20 stages). I'm afraid they will drop support when other multiplayer games like Splatoon 2 comes along. I already have it pre-ordered however so all I can do is wait and see
@KirbyTheVampire Less people playing, some won't buy the subscription and so the communities for less big games are hit more than if free online was permanent. Also 2018 is looking rather single player heavy so far so there may not be the push needed to buy the subscription.
@rk3388 Don't forget that the first few months of Splatoon's DLC were all on disc DLC (if I recall correctly, everything up to the August 2015 update was on disc DLC) so this isn't really comparable.
Is anyone else getting a terrible connection trying to play the game online and constantly disconnecting? I just gave up for now even though I was so excited to start playing and get better. ARMs is actually a lot harder than I thought it would be so I need to really get more in the zone and improve myself!
@meleebrawler I've read Q&A articles with people who have the game and they have said they believed Splatoon started with more content than ARMS with the better single player campaign, expansive maps, and hub world.
Don't get me wrong, I am still looking forward to it! I was just hoping for monthly stages/characters, at least near the beginning of the game's life.
@Grumblevolcano Isn't the DLC character already apart of the game? I still believe the two games are comparable as I have seen countless comparisons from reviewers and online forums alike.
@Grumblevolcano Ah, I see. I'm not convinced the community will shrink to the point of having a hard time getting into matches or whatever, but we'll see.
Starting to get the hang of it. So far my mains definitely are Ninjara and Mechanica. And my favourite ARM is the Revolver. What are your mains so far?
I gotta say I really enjoy the fights, but the minigames not so much. Volleyball and Basketball are somewhat cumbersome because you can't turn manually.
And the shooting gallery is kinda unbalanced. If you play that mode against Mechanica (tried it several times with Ribbon Girl), you're at a huge disadvantage. Similarly, if you play with Mechanica (in my case I randomly played against Ribbon Girl), it's a piece of cake.
@rk3388 Which DLC character do you mean? Max Brass is already part of the game.
Amazon just shipped my game:) So excited to play it:)
That's the beauty of buying games digitally. You can start downloading at 0:00 and shortly thereafter start playing. I could never wait for the physical release to arrive. ^^
@KirbyTheVampire Well but there's another valid point that @Grumblevolcano made indirectly. If you wait until the price drops (I don't see that happening before 2019 or 2020 since it's a flagship title that was just released), you'll miss at least 7 months (or maybe even a year) of free online gaming. So in the end, you end up saving no money at all.
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to till after work to play. Being an adult sucks! Quick question, can you unlock different outfits for the fighters? It's a big staple of any fighting game and I'd be really put off if it didn't.
