I tried Min-Min out for a while and I think I might have to drop Kid Cobra. Min-Min just feels better to use, more quick and mobile. It also helps that I love her Ram-Ram.

@meleebrawler Interesting....and of course the game never explains this leaving you to button mash your confusion away....

@Nintendoer The weird thing is that Kid Cobra seems to be touted for his speed. But his need to keep stopping to recharge seems, to me, to make him slower than ribbon/min/ninjara, which I'm liking more than cobra more and more.

I still can't love springman. Nothing wrong with him...just nothing that's as appealing as the above.

@NEStalgia Well, his movement style does make sense when you consider how the animal he's based on behaves (as do most reptiles, really). Stalks really slowly, or when defending itself assumes a threatening stance (charging in the game), then lashes out with lightning speed. Rather than constant movement like Ribbon Girl or Ninjara, Kid Cobra is moving unassumingly slow, or even being stationary, trying to goad the opponent into striking so that he may then slip past it and retaliate. His long jump is used for more general movement when outside of counterattack range, and is a good way to launch punches while remaining somewhat mobile.

Spring Man can run a number of playstyles. His shockwave is such a low-key, yet versatile tool that helps him whether he's playing offensively or defensively. He can be a real wild card, able to use pretty much any kind of arm well with the right mindset. Personally I feel he does lean a bit more to the aggressive side when compared to Max Brass, who bulks himself up by charging to be armoured but very slow.

@meleebrawler Yeah, KC's definitely a misdirection/speed character, while characters such as Ninjara and Min-Min are exclusively speed characters.

Ok, seriously screw Ribbon Granny and all her evil clones.

Also what happened to party mode? Suddenly today half the players i can't add much as hit more than twice while the dodge every punch and land every blow. It's like I'm suddenly defending against lv7 ai every match, while just a day ago i was still winning 90% of the time.

I think I'll go back to ranked! Ite maybe unlock ranked on my other Nintendo account.

@Nintendoer You know, I've never really thought of Min-Min as a "speed" character. Outside of her longer than usual air dodges (her sideways ones actually feel a bit slow to me, though they are covered by kicks), her movement is fairly average. I feel she's more of an all-rounder akin to Spring Man, having similar abilities (perma-charged arms, parrying) just applied differently. Think Chun-Li; above-average mobility, yes, but hardly to the point of being defined by it.

@NEStalgia A strong defence is the key to beating aggro Ribbon Girls. As you know, it's pointless to attempt attacking her while she's jumping around, as she is simply far too nimble. Jumping after her is also a big no-no unless your character can match her aerial prowess or gain a greater height advantage.

Always try to keep a healthy amount of distance, so that you have time to defend. Since direct attacking arms work best with aggressive styles, equip a heavier one such as a Megaton or Whammer (the latter is slower in close combat but has a nice vertical arc in it's strike) and throw it out whenever you see punches incoming; fighters cannot air dash while they have an arm out, and by extension Ribbon Girl cannot dive bomb either. Have a faster arm in your other hand in case she slips around this: a Hydra would be ideal, but any reasonably fast direct arm, such as any of the gloves or poppers/crackers will do. Throw this faster arm out whenever Ribbon Girl is being passive and you are at a safe distance, both on the off-chance of getting a lucky hit and to build your flurry.

@meleebrawler For now I'm sticking with the default weapons for everyone. Honestly, I can't imagine how long I'd have to play to actually be able to get all the weapons for everyone. So far I've played arms getter once. I have 1400 coins racked up so I could play a few times....but I'm still playing too many characters for it to matter, and meanwhile I'm learning my characters with specific weapons, so I'm not sure being able to change them will even be desirable after spending so much time on specific kits.

Though yesterday's trouble wasn't just Ribbon Grannys. The only Ribbon Granny I got yesterday wasn't actually one of those unstoppable players, and I won. It was all the OTHER characters I couldn't hit! Instead of going back to online I went through lv4 on my alt account so I can have a ranked account to just mess around with different characters on, while continuing to focus on RG on my "main" one. though that means getting less coins and weapon options again. Party mode is grating on me. I love the team and 4-way battles, and hedlok battles (teathered team frustrations aside), 3-way battles annoy me as it comes down to either the player that hides and waits it out winning, or me hiding and waiting the whole match before I win, or just getting ganged up from 2 directions at once, and getting grabbed whenever I punch either opponent or use a flurry. But after getting a bunch of vball and skillshot yesterday, and then getting shut out by near-perfects on the rare 1v1 matches, I was ready to throw something.

Finished kid cobras grand prix today. Only helix left. I really like how cobra insults his enemies as dogs in german when he gets knocked down. And his grab finisher looks godly from the right angle. I still prefer springman though.

How often is this game supposed to be getting updates? Splatoon got them fairly frequently, but I'm not sure if they ever said how frequently this game would be updated.

@-Green- I think the updates will be monthly. They definitely won't be as frequent as Splatoon's.

It looks like Max Brass has no disadvantages. He looks very overpowered.

Finished grand prix and 1 on 100 with every character today. It was hard but ranked seems to be much tougher. Felt really intense and great. My hands were shaking. But to be honest the pressure is at least for now a bit too much. Playing splatoon doesnt feel so heavy because the pressure is divided amongst the teammates. And blaming them for a loss is also an option^^

@Nintendoer He's a fairly large target, especially when he uses his bulk up mechanic (which also makes him move verrry slow, slower than even Master Mummy I find). Even when he's in crisis mode and gains the armour without the slowdown, he's still huge. And, if we're going by default arm selection, they tend to blow up in his face.

If you don't charge his bulk (which seems to also be done with throws), he's pretty much just a larger Spring Man with a somewhat more powerful throw and less flexible charging.

All trailers for new characters gloss over weaknesses. It's how they build hype. But what's interesting about ARMs is that few of the characters really have glaring weaknesses, and if they do, it's as a trade-off for more powerful strengths. The extremes mainly come in the form of equipped arms.

@meleebrawler Wow, you're so good at analyzing this game that you can look at an unreleased character critically. I commend you for your ARMS skills.

@Nintendoer Hold that applause... I have been wrong about certain assumptions before. But it also helps that Max is in the game, just not playable, so we certainly have more than trailer footage to look at.

Though, I wonder what will happen when you play as him in Grand Prix? Will it become Title Defence mode? Will Spring Man be the new champion?

@meleebrawler I was wondering about that, too. And although I don't think it's the likeliest option, one scenario that I imagined is that the narrative will be advanced next month, with a Hedlok-possessed character taking Max's place and a new, yet-unseen boss taking Hedlok's place.

This could just be a wild dream, but Nintendo clearly have some kind of story in mind with Hedlok suddenly dropping out of the sky there. And even if the next development doesn't come now, it is surely coming sooner or later. I feel like they would have left Max unplayable if they didn't mean for him to be replaced as an antagonist, because we already know they have more playable characters in the works.

This game uses that is predictive ai in the netcode splatoon and kart use. To many times i see my punches go through people only to see them get hit later, or i see punches connect but never actually hit. and a saw a player who's grabs kept going right though me, while another they'd grab nowhere near me and is snap into it...... grabs are hitscan, apparently..... which might explain why they're so popular. Ugh....switchs poor wifi signal does cause some issues after all. (Not my end.... I'm playing either wired in the dock, or right next to a hotspot portably.... I've seen a number of players start acting schitzo, then drop out as well. )

@Nintendoer @meleebrawler yeah, melees fighter analysis is insane. These posts here provide faaaaaaar more info than anything even Yabuki has said!

Lol at the loosers leaving the game when theyre about to loose. This is beyond loosing. Seriously dont they get any penalties for this besides being pitiful? And whats wrong with getting at least a little bit of credit for almost winning?

Besides this ranked is really the best part of the game.
