@Moroboshi876 I think there are some differences in the pacing of the story which reflects on the stages.

@Corneel I have one question. In Metal Slug 2 challenge it says 3 lives, 0 continues, but in the explanation you also talk about 3 credits. What's the right option?

@Corneel Don't be. I mean, you manage it and pay for it, so... By the way, how do you decide who's first and second when there's a tie like in DK3's case?

@Corneel No, I don't mind to be the one who got 9 points. I was just asking. After all I'm not going to win anyway.

My Progress in the current challenges so far:

GRADIUS II aka Vulcan Venture (beat the first boss, big bird thing, then crashed straight into the first wave of enemies after that. Does that count as level 2?)
Untitled

DONKEY KONG 3 (loving this game but who the heck is Stanley? Mario impersonator?)
Untitled

METAL SLUG 2 (Missions 1 and 2 cleared, stuck on end boss of Mission 3)
Untitled

TENGAI (stop laughing)

@Lroy Stanley is actually an obscure character in Nintendo's history, but they do put references to him in some games, like Game & Watch Gallery or WarioWare.

Slightly more respectable score for TENGAI:

Konami have just announced TATE support for their arcade collection! That's tipped me over the edge in terms of buying it so I'll be able to try the Gradius 2 challenge as well as Tengai.

Also, good result for fan pressure. Nice to see a company listening (even if it should have been there from the start anyway).

@Shmupsnstuff Well, they announced it some time ago, just as the japanese versions. Have they put them too yet?

@Moroboshi876 Don't know about JP versions. Mine actually hasn't even added the TATE option yet...

Edit: Made it to stage 3 of Gradius 2. Good God this game is tough!

Corneel

The TATE option in the Arcade Collection was added today for me. Still no Japanese versions, but to know they are on their way is comforting.

@Shmupsnstuff Yeah, Gradius II is tough and very unforgiving.

Finally got over 100,000 in Donkey Kong 3

Well, here is my first attempt ever at Metal Slug 2.

That's where I make it to with 3 credits.

I haven't really played MS1 all that much, but this second entry is something I loved since minute 1. Its humor is better and the locations are incredible.

I'm finding the credit limit in Gradius II doesn't make as much difference as I assumed. My runs are basically decided by how far I get on my very first life. Restarting with no powerups is borderline impossible at certain points.

By the way, has anyone made it past the asteroids in stage 3? What's the best technique? I've tried shooting them all and I've tried leaving them whole and gliding between them but I just die over and over and over whatever I do.

Here's my screenshot, by the way:
