@meppi64
Europe release is TBA for now (very soon though ). Translations take a while for the eShop (lots and lots of languages).
Rotating the TATE the other way is something that may come down the pipe.
The game supports Pro-Controller, My favorite way to play TPA is with a Pro Controller and Monitor swiveled to vertical and Camera 1 , Pinball heaven!
There are season bundles yes.
The seasons bundles are the same tables as the other platforms.
@Agent721 I'm going to try Blazing Dragon next. Bad Dudes I played handheld 4:3 ratio no filter and I think it looks great. The flaming punch isn't as OP as I remember it being on NES. You have to hold still to begin your charge and you have to be holding still to use your charge punch. It's a fun game that brings back memories.
@swuthmaster ah, thanks for the quick reply!
The wait will be pure torture here, that's for sure.
I tend to play either on the big screen with a pro controller, or late night in bed with the screen flipped and propped against my knees with a joycon in each hand.
It's so relaxing to play like that before going to sleep.
I ordered a Hori stand which I think should arrive tomorrow just to play vertical pinball with the pro controller actually.
I hope you guys can keep doing this for a long long time!
I've been there since the Gotlieb release on Wii and got pretty much every pinball release you've put out since then.
So far the Switch is without a doubt my favourite platform for pinball games, and I'm not just saying that because I'm on a Nintendo site.
Been a lifelong pinball fan actually, even though I haven't played an actual cabinet since the early 90's.
Grew up in a small cafe back in the day, so yeah. My first memories are actually playing Space Invaders and pinball games. lol
The first one should be from 1978 I think, and moving up from then
This last one isn't me in the picture, but it made my find out one of the tables that I played back then and couldn't remember a thing about till I saw the exact same side art in a pinball documentary a month or 2 ago. It's Trident.
No idea about those other games though.
Although I know we had a Buck Rogers one as well as Solar Fire at one point.
Also a public service announcement. STAR FORCE was recently reviewed on this site and given a 5/10. Garnered some very interesting comments from the community.
Picked it up this evening having mainly only ever known it from gaming reference books, historical significance etc. Also had a spin on it on MAME once or twice. Anyway, it is an enjoyable and challenging vertical shooter from back when the genre was really starting to define and evolve itself. Holds up very well to this day and is far better than a 5/10 would suggest. Vintage but great arcade fun... just like MOON PATROL 😉
@meppi64@GrailUK If MOON PATROL gets given a 5/10 then I think we need to start a mutiny 😉. It's like giving a game like DIG-DUG or SPACE INVADERS or PAC-MAN a 5/10 just because it is old. These are the classics!
@Lroy time to take the site back from the tyranny of modern gamers!
The problem I have with the explanations given when something like that happens is, yeah, they review those games with the average consumer in mind, I get it.
It's also wrong.
It does no one any good.
Nor the fans, not the "average consumers" and not the people who put these games out.
It's easy to go: Joe Shmo won't like this old game because it doesn't have the modern sensibilities, or eye candy that he expects and us used to. So a 5/10 it is.
They did this same thing when the PSone was out.
"Old 2D games? We're in the future baby! Everything good is 3D now. There's no room for this old junk!"
Same thing when the Dreamcast came out. Lots of bad reviews because certain games didn't use every last bit of processing power in e system.
Well guess what? We're 18 years, or even 22 years later, and those old games they trashed are some of the ones that have stood the test of time better than most of the 3D games that came out at the same time.
If you give a great game a so-so review, you lose credibility with people who know you're being way too critical. The casual fans or people who aren't interested in these games will move along without blinking, or will think "yep, see those are crappy games, just as I thought."
So yeah. I say, let people who love and understand this era of games review them for people of the same age/mindset/taste/whatever.
That way, people who do get these games might come away with some useful info and discover some gems they haven't played before, or avoid some not so good games that might have seemed better than they actually are.
And the casual gamer will either, shrug and continue on because they still aren't interested in them, or who knows, he might wonder "hmm, why does this game get so much praise? Perhaps I should try it out myself."
It's either a lose-lose, or a win-win/draw situation.
I'd rather go for the latter myself. Then again, who am I?...

@Lroy Moon Patrol is a classic! It's a really clever blend of memory, remembering the terrain and reflexes, responding to the randomised aerial attacks. The colour palette is genius because you can relax your vision and still see the craters in your peripheral view.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@Agent721 You got that right. I'd like to go back in time and show the Switch to 16 year old me playing Capcom Vs. SNK on my Neo Geo Pocket Color. My head probably would have exploded.
Our (Farsight) community dudes have a Twitch live stream going on right now, where they will be announcing (and I think, showing) the "The Pinball Arcade" on the Switch!
@meppi64 Nice photos mate. I must admit I just haven't taken the plunge on a pinball game for the Switch because I'm just so out of my depth with them lol. I saw Arcade Pinball and was going to wait and see what that was like. @Lroy Star Force is on my high score radar. Will be going for that at some point.

Yeah, good luck with that one 😉 STAR FORCE was a big deal in Japan - like XEVIOUS before it. So unlike some of the Arcade Archives titles, this one has already got a Leaderboard full of amazing scores by largely Far East Asian players.
Then again, you've already got a proven track record of breaking even the most seemingly unbeatable high-score. All power to you 👍

Got a nice little package in the mail today with a whole bunch of older games including these gems:
I had forgotten that there were a couple of retail releases of several digital only games.
Really happy to have Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 1 and 2 on disc now as well as Pacman Championship Edition, Xevious, Galaga '88, Galaga Arrangement, which I don't even know what that is!, Super Pacman, Mr Driller.
Now I'm just hunting down a copy of Qubed for Rez HD, Every Extend Extra and Lumines Live, even though that's on one of these already.
