Hello, I have a somewhat difficult case and would appreciate your help.
I have been using a friend's account to try out animal crossing new horizons. I know it's not very noble but I wanted to make sure I liked the game before I bought it. I have my switch, he has his, so we have two different islands (since they are saved locally) but only one (his) account/user. The drawback is, of course, as his switch is the primary one and mine the secondary, I am always being kicked out of the game as soon as he starts playing. As I started liking the game a lot and got tired of being kicked out, I bought the game myself with my own account/user. Unfortunately, it seems that there is no way for me to transfer my island from his account to my new account. With my account, I can only be a guest now on my island. Also, it would not make sense to transfer the entire account as his own island is still connected to his switch, instead we would need some sort of splitting, so my island and character could be transferred to my new account, and his island could remain on his account - hence a local transfer. Since the new data saving update arrived in November 2020, I was hoping that their might be a chance for me to "stay" on my switch but to just transfer my island from one account to another. The information I found online just regarded the transfer from one switch to another. Does anybode know if there is help in this regard?

@GreenJosy : You have complicated things significantly by creating a new island using your friend's account, and while I have contemplated a few possible options, I don't think that any of them would work in practice, and that you have little choice but to start anew.

From what I have read online, the Island Representative (as in, the first profile) cannot be changed or transferred to another user on the same island. Removing their user account will delete the entire island.

I suggest you cut your losses, delete your friend's profile from your console, and start fresh. If you want to transfer any bells or items to your new island, then perhaps your friend can be of help (you can dump your items on his island before wiping your current island, and then collect the items and take them to your new island). This should minimise most of the sting of starting over.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

@GreenJosy Silly_G might be right, but maybe this article can help. I don't know if you can use the Nintendo support chat messenger for North America here or not. Maybe Nintendo EU/Austria/UK support has a messenger? That might be a way to get a solid answer from Nintendo customer support.

Nintendo of America support contact page(chat messenger might be region locked, but give it a try. the messenger is only available during word day hours for Seattle Washington.

Thank you both very much for your fast response and your suggestions.
I guess, as long as there is no option to transfer the island representative or at least make it possible to chose a new island representative among all users on one switch console, there is no solution to my problem.
As I have already progressed in the game (especially with the Nook miles challenges and the house expansions), I think I would not be able to start all over again. I guess I would rather continue playing on my friend's account and switch to mine as soon as he plays and kicks me out. Well, I learned from this and I will use my own account from now on. Thank you anyways!

If you press start from the Home Screen and then back out it should fix the problem.

Do you have access to a 3rd switch?

If you move your island from his account on your switch to his account on another switch, that should orphan the island. Boot up the game on your switch while logged into your account and it should tell you there is an existing island without a representative and ask if you want to take over. Then you can just delete the island and account from the 3rd switch.
