Topic: Animal Crossing Transfer (two switches one game?)

Background:

My boyfriend owns a switch and is the primary user on it. I own the animal crossing game and am the island rep on there. I will be getting my own switch at Christmas and want to move the whole island across to it.

Problem:

It appears that you need two switches and two copies of the game to move the islands. If I borrow my sister's copy of animal crossing for the transfer, will it mess up her game and delete her island when she reinserts her game card into her own personal switch? I'm not super keen on buying another physical copy of animal crossing since my boyfriend doesn't play the game and I already bought it in March on release.

I don't see it saying you need 2 copies of the game in there? This is mostly intended for people to move the whole game across, with save data, after all .... Since you say 'another physical copy', does that mean your existing one is physical? Maybe others here who have used the tool can help more if the above link isn't enough

@Woopy You can borrow your sisters Animal Crossing game card with no issue. The game card is game only. Game save data is stored on the Switch internal memory. So, if you plug your sisters' game card in your new switch console, it will boot up a fresh new game (unless you transfer your game save data to that new switch).

@BruceCM I read somewhere that you needed animal crossing on both so I think you do need two copies somehow unless I've misread it!
@WoomyNNYes Thank you very much! I had a feeling that data was synced to a cloud/device and not the card itself but didn't want to find out it wasn't the hard way and ruin Christmas!!

@Woopy If you and someone else want to play Animal Crossing at the same time on two switch consoles, you want 1 game copy per console. If you aren't going to play at the same time, you can take turns using the physical game card.
