Topic: Advance Wars 1+2

Really into this game. I love the HD rumble during the attack animations.

Being my first Advance Wars, I'm playing on Casual. I thought about Normal mode given my experience with Fire Emblem, but nah. I'd rather take it easy for the first game, and then I can always change it later for the second.

So much strategy in this game I wasn't expecting. I thought it would be the same as Fire Emblem [GBA] but with toy soldiers. Nope. Advance Wars really does have its own unique gameplay. Can't approach things the same way.

Is 100% completion getting all S ranks? My completion percentage seems very low for being at Mission 23 (59%).

@Grumblevolcano ...Ugh, probably, if you want to complete that medal nametag thing. I ain't doing it, though. But the game does have a hard mode soooo, there's also that.

The reverse cover art is better than the original.

Also, Adder creeps me out now, seeing him in an actual story, being animated and in 3D now...lol

I've found myself having to restart multiple times on missions. Even on casual, the games a little hard to get used to for me.

Can't remember my first Advance Wars experience, been way too long since I played some of the original first game...and same can be said about my first time with Dual Strike.

@Colonel_Mustache Yeah, don't know if these games have those kinds of timed missions, Dual Strike does, though.

@Colonel_Mustache Yeah there's this one mission I remember in Dual Strike that gave you 50 minutes, and you had like, a bunch of crap do dual with. Taking out a giant Black Cannon, a giant Black Crystal, and firing a certain amount of missiles to destroy a satellite. I think the satellite is the only one that uses the time limit so if you destroyed that then you won't have to deal with that anymore. xp

Okay the main target is the Crystal, but the satellite is the time limit and getting rid of that ends the timer, and the cannon is optional.

...Don't think Black Hole Rising has any missions like this, just turns.

The game crashed on me during a tough mission, really put me in a crappy mood until I went back and saw that IT SAVED MY GAME AFTER MY LAST TURN. xD

EDIT: Also, apparently the original CO power themes are in this game then...? Weird, do they just happen at random or does it depend on the campaign missions? What about War Room or custom maps? Anyways interesting that they're still in, I thought it was just alternate CO themes only or something. lol

I was happy to see gold coins awarded when so many people have experienced them being expired because the cartridges went gold a year ago but their release was delayed.

Think I failed a mission like twice so far, once in the first game because it gave me bad advice (not joking. xD) and I think in one of the missions of the second game because they're all turn limited or whatever you want to call those. lol

The people who didn't get awarded were trying to claim before the system was updated with the recent update.

My coins claimed just fine as has everyone else I've spoken to who updated their system first. Seems to be yet another instance of misinformation going around because one dude on Twitter jumped to conclusions.

Ya, it's not like FE where you can only bump difficulty down. There's no reason to push it while getting acclimated.

Some of the levels are pretty tough to S rank on normal difficulty, but that aside, it's not too bad.

Now, the unlockable hard mode will be another story. I remember it being pretty brutal in the GBA release.

Yeah Black Hole Rising is much more difficult, I'm still not failing constantly, but a lot of the time I'm just wondering how is S rank even possible on these missions. lol

@Joeynator3000 Nice. AW2 is the only one I have no experience with whatsoever. Excited to finally play it!

Me: makes it to Sensei's Return mission
Sensei: gives Adder a random tip about joining units that exceed 10 HP to get some bonus money
Me: ...Even I didn't know about that...lol

The Blue Moon HQs are clearly Russian cathedrals.

It's strange they delayed the game for over a year ostensibly due to Russia's actions, and didn't change that in that time.

.....the games are remakes. I'd rather them not make changes to games that are remakes...if they were completely new/original games, then sure I guess.

I put this in the specific friend code thread too but it looks like it's been a bit slow there lately.
