I personally thought the delay was fine within the context of the delay, and was kinda surprised by how many people were so ***** about it, but I'm glad it now has a release date so all those babies can shut the ***** up about it.
I also hope the game is good, looks like a comfy hour before bed game.
I feel like the delay, it's price and release date so close to Zelda is going to kill this games potential. To me part of the appeal of this was it's online section, but if nobody buys this game and Nintendo's online service is it's usually restrictive self its gonna be DOA. They added some interesting online components to Mario Strikers, but it doesn't seem like this will attempt to have any of that.
1) Prior to the indefinite delay, Advance Wars had already been delayed by half a year or so
2) People had already been left to wait more than a decade for any new Advance Wars games to begin with.
3) A short delay might have made sense, but what's the sense in waiting an entire year, and then releasing it even thought the war that caused the delay in the first place is still taking place? It all just feels pointless.
4) The game was already completed, and Nintendo went fully radio silent on when people should be able to expect it.
5) Nintendo published Triangle Strategy even closer to the breakout of the war. Despite being a fantasy game, the plot even more closely resembled the real-life violence happening in certain respects, and, unlike AW, the subject matter was depicted in a rather realistic and brutal fashion.
I don't think it's all that surprising that people were angry about the situation.
And yes, Advance Wars is an awesome little series. Pure tactics, with little narrative fluff and no RPG mechanics to dilute the purity of its design.
@JesseA This game isn't gonna be a huge seller, but the people who do want it will want it quite badly. Zelda releasing a month later isn't going to make much of a difference at all.
Currently Playing: Yakuza 0: Director's Cut (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
I don’t see what the issue is myself, I think people are looking at the delay the wrong way as it’s less to do with caring about Ukraine and more to do with simple marketing. War is in the name of the game, people are saying war is bad, the subconscious creates a lack of interest for those casual players who could buy the game, Advance Wars is a small seller so it needs help not hindrance to promote it.
Looking at the people complaining about the delay on here because of the war it’s almost always Americans and those saying something like it’s understandable it’s almost always Europeans.
I don't really understand why it was delayed as long as it was. It was due for a December 2021 release but the war, which is still ongoing, made Nintendo have a "GTA 3 after 9/11" moment, as far as my best guess goes. It's been finished for well over a year by now and interest in the game is definitely lower for it. It could have easily been a November or December 22 release but this guarantees Nintendo has a good run of one game a month at least, from now until May.
I dunno, I wanted Advance Wars back more than most, but I was pretty eh on actually playing it when it was gonna launch. I have so many games to play, and I replayed them on Wii U around 2016/17, and I was busy with other things.
Now I'm just playing a giant pile of whatever until I get around to buying TotK, and Advance Wars fits nicely into my "old game series I bought on Switch where I'll play the sequel/s later" collection, which includes probably like 5 different game series at this point. (I do need to get around to Grandia at some point, I haven't even started the first one yet...)
@TheJGG The Dec 21 date doesn't matter as it was delayed due to it not being ready but I honestly think it's more popular now than it was originally. It's smaller user base would have gotten it regardless plus now it’s have had other people have taken a look at Advance Wars after they were told they couldn’t have it, it’s like those people who started buying Bayonetta 3 despite not liking Bayonetta after the voice actress said her pay sucks so there should be more unions and a boycott (yes she’s likely a fibber and a bit nuts before anyone bring that up) as people like controversy.
I think Nintendo should have embraced it more and kept to the 2022 date but with the #thoughtsandprayers edition and released it with Ukraine flag on the case with so skins of Zelenskyy and Putin in the game. Maybe have a blood pack in special edition too so you can cover your hands with blood as you play it. Now that would get people talking!
Won't be picking it up at launch anymore like I was going to but if I find a cheap-ish physical copy down the line (but no guarantees that happens with first party stuff) then I might pick it up eventually.
Am I right in thinking it's gone up in price since the original planned release?
In my head I'm almost certain it was either 40 or 50 Euro and not the full-fat 60 quid range.
No, if you go back and look at the first page people thought the same thing. I think that's what everyone assumed, but Nintendo's gonna Nintendo. To be fair this does feel more like a remake then a remaster.
Have they said anything more about the online mode? Is it two online modes for each game or are they combining everything into one?
@jump Ah no problem. I think one of our local shops just decided to have it a tenner below retail. Ireland is always a bit finicky on the prices of physical games with barely and rhyme or reason 😅
@Ralizah I think jump managed to answer almost all your points quite succinctly until they went off the deep end a bit with that special edition suggestion 😂
@jump The way I see it there's three main reasons people buy games nowdays. First is the simple, "I like the look of this game and I want to buy it". Second is the "I wanna see what the fuss is all about" type. And third is the "this game is controversial and I want to spite people, so I'll buy this". I'm surprised how powerful the third option is, since people like controversy as you say. It's working with Hogwarts Legacy, that's for sure.
@TheJGG It's mental how much fuss is being made about Harry Potter all because JK Rowling has views on something as simple and boring as bathroom usage!
