Nintendo Switch 2 is finally here, check out our guide: Nintendo Switch 2 Guide: Ultimate Resource.

I've used the search box but found nothing about this in the results.

The thing is, as you may have noticed, now two people can't play the same Mario Kart World session with their own user profile. For instance, if I play with my daughter there is no way she can keep her progress, nor the playtime is registered in her account profile.

We recently played Super Mario Party Jamboree on our good old Switch and both of us saw the time spent in the game on our respective profiles.

Why does it have to work this way in Mario Kart World? Does anybody know any workaround?

Thanks

What from I've gathered, only certain games can do that. The ones I know that can have multiple profiles playing at once are:
Mario Party Superstars
Super Mario Party Jamboree
Nintendo Switch Sports
There might be others, but none that I've heard of. Now that I think about it, having that option in Mario Kart would be cool!

@ShieldHero Thanks for your answer. It certainly is one of those weird Nintendo decisions I hope they fix in the future through a patch or something.

@Moroboshi876 It's rare that games are structured like that. (not saying it's not a good idea)

Mario Kart 8 progress, kart part unlocks, and character unlocks, (and possibly coins) are only saved to the switch user/nintendo account that opened the game. I think part of the reason it doesn't save progress to the secondary players is to prevent exploits for earning things, and it keeps the game design structure less complex. There's already scams/fraud & cheating with people trying to sell nintendo accounts with certain things earned. I don't see Nintendo ever adding player 2 progression to MKW as a patch, but I'll agree, for a household/family it could be a nice feature to have.

In the case of Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart World, I just prioritize the main switch user/nintendo account to accumulate progress & unlocks. If anyone else in the house want's to play with all the unlocked characters & karts, we all use the main account. I don't think it's a perfect game structure, but that's how I deal with it.
