I'm surprised they're using so much on the OS and I'm a little confused why the processor drops to 998MHz when in docked mode but Hey ho.. let's wait for the games.
I’m okay with a dedicated thread just to discuss specs. My overall opinion is DLSS will be the saving grace for this console. This is already a rumor from a prettty reliable leaker that DLSS is getting upgraded in the console later this year. I’m not sure if that will be the newest model they just released or not. However, the numbers are baseless. We already see games not even released that are performing well and visually looking just as good as PS5 version. Every developer that has spoken on the specs have said nothing but positive things. I believe we have a good speced console here. My only hope and my theory is they are going to allow developers to run higher clocks for more demanding game which is why their is an additional fan in the dock.

What else would they say at this point, though? "The specs are not so great and our game won't run as well as on other platforms, but please buy it anyway." 🙂
Yeah i think they are just going to keep their head down and act like things are cool and you'll only hear complaints through the grapevine as is traditional.
That said, the mere fact Switch 2 will be able to recieve competent ports of most current gen games is a big turnaround from last Gen. Technically, the specs suggest Switch 2 is actually less future proofed than Switch 1 was when it launched - the chips inside SW2 are older relative to its launch than the chips inside Switch 1 was relative to its launch. But due to diminishing returns, merely being ps4 pro level alone means youre now capable of pulling off most games.
Add in the DLSS and other tricks incorporated into the Ampere custom chip will make it punch up for years to come. Going to be a lot of "miracle ports" like Witcher 3, imo.
@Polvasti go back and look at any interview with from the original switch, Wii U, and Wii era. There are no developers talking about the hardware like they are now.
I highly doubt Witcher 4 will be "made for" Switch 2, but I'd wager a guess it'll still be there in miracle port form. Even though Switch 2 is a capable little machine by 2028 there will be games making even ps5 pro sweat. There will be many games imo people doubt could competently come to Switch 2 - like Monster Hunter Wilds for example - that may make surprise appearances with downgraded yet surprisingly high quality ports.
@Quantumz00 I get it and that’s the joy of the switch hybrid platform. I’m not an expert by any means. At the end of the day there isn’t a game on the market or that is being made right now that can run decently on switch 2. It’s all depending on what you want and your perspective. I feel confident that GTA VI and Doom Dark Ages will both run fine on the console at 1080p and. Super stable 30fps with image quality on par with the series S version if not a little better. The DLSS as implemented on this closed hardware is the secret sauce and is going to allow things we can’t comprehend. The results are already above what we could have expected.
@Quantumz00 there will be no miracle ports this time around. Games will be “made” for the console.
That's part of the problem the games "made" for the console are very few in the launch window, and although I'm sure they’ll be lots more to come Nintendo can't afford to go dragging their heels on this, they need to announce and launch some more major first party titles sooner rather than later.
@Dhaladog we don’t know what’s all coming this year. They are launching with their biggest evergreen IP in Mario kart which is smart. A new 3D donkey Kong is the month after. MP4 which is their tech showpiece will be soon after that. Believe me we will get multiple bigger games before the year is out for the holiday period.
Metroid has never really moved units, so I don't think Prime 4 will draw a lot of people to the platform. Personally it is one of the top reasons I'm purchasing a Switch 2, but it was never a system seller. Mario Kart is the big draw, and when the next Pokémon and Animal Crossing comes they too will be massive pulls.
Yup. Although DF did say his analysis is prettu skewed now because at the time that Chinese user didn't know 3gb of RAM was reserved for gamechat. This will be a massive factor that does place it more squarely next to ps4 pro than before, and makes it more evenly matched with Steam Deck just with more modern feature set DLSS and shaders. I really do hope they can over time reduce the ram footprint of their entire OS.
