@Rainz the 12GB of Ram is in the shipping manifest that isn’t to be disputed. Also, for what it’s worth Nintendo has historically been pretty modern when it comes to CPUs. The saving grace for Switch 2 is Nvidia. I personally don’t believe the leaked CPU speeds that are out there. We have no content other than they were datamined. Those could be old clocks and not the ones that will be used on release. There is a lot we just don’t know. Hopefully we will be able to connect the dots and get the full picture of what this console is capable of in the next couple of months. I trust Nvidia hardware PERIOD! This console is going to be better and more modern than the Switch 1 was when it released based on the competition.

We know the CPU will be underclocked…Nintendo is pretty notorious for that.

That was then this isn't the same as no one knows the specs of a custom T239 made exclusive for Switch 2. So please tell us and link to where you found it was underpowered for Switch 2?

@SwitchForce

There was a rumoured release detailing the clock speeds in both docked and handheld. Some claimed the clock speeds were expectedly low in handheld for example. Nintendo historically maintains lower clock speeds for a more balanced performance and reducing overheating. This is common knowledge

Rainz

@Rainz DF has no clue...the Switch T239 isn't based on the Nvidia T234 chipset. That knowledge is wrong now with what was found now about the Switch 2 developments.

"You Won't Believe The NEW Nintendo Switch 2 Discovery!" Look at the bracket what is says about the Switch 2 chipset.

A YouTuber discovered a LinkedIn profile of an Nvidia employee who worked on the ("custom-designed chip for the Nintendo Switch 2"). This chip, codenamed T239, was in development since 2017, meaning it was being built alongside the development of the technology it uses. This suggests the Switch 2's power could be significantly higher than previously thought.

@SwitchForce
Well underclocked and underpowered are 2 completely different things. Switch could be “significantly more powerful” than Switch 1 and still have an under clocked CPU. It’s a balancing act between performance and costs. Nintendo isn’t going to chase performance if it out prices their system costs. Of course Switch 2 will be more powerful we just don’t know what concessions are being made to find that balance Nintendo is looking for. Underclocked CPU’s aren’t the end of the world and they can be adjusted within a consoles lifespan

@Rainz Why do people keep harping the power specs of Switch v1 generations is what the Switch 2 will be less powerful. We just got doomed fandom who just can't accept that Switch 2 is a different system. The video already said it's not a T239 that people think it was as it customized and not from the T234 line-it has it's own chipset specific for Switch 2. Nintendo already said this was a change did no one listen to them.

@SwitchForce This is true. However, I think most people are going off the Nvidia leaks that happened a couple of years ago. It had a lot of information about the T239. However we have no idea how custom this chipset is. I will say I could see Nintendo prioritizing the GPU over the CPU if it is (as it seems to be) a 8nm chip. Heat and battery life are the concern I’m sure. With that being said we know from shipping documents that the dock has an extra fan unlike switch 1. I expect the console to really shine in dock mode and the clocks to run as high as possible which some earlier leaks/rumors suggest. That is the big reason why everyone was confused by the leaked clock speeds because the CPU being clocked lower in docked mode makes zero sense at all.

@SwitchForce @Qwertyninty
It's using the T239, I'm not sure what the point of all this back and forth is. Also I wouldn't even attempt to forecast performance from clocks. It's a fun game to play sure but the clocks tell you nothing about performance in isolation

What matters more is the feature set and how developers take advantage of that feature set. And Switch 2, based on the known specs of the T239, is going to have a very, very modern feature set. So any concern is unjustified I feel. For a portable and especially for the price this is going to a very attractive product

.... also we're only a few weeks away from the April Direct so maybe we should just chill for a bit. We'll be able to see what devs have been able to achieve on that SoC soon enough

@Qwertyninty The part is we don't even have way to even confirm how they got the info or verify it and that is the worst part that eats at one. How would the rest of us even begin to know the specs of the chipset if that was a completely customized chipset using the T239 in name only. Like I said only the Fabs and Nintendo knows it's specs and locking that down to prevent leaks. And only on April 2 will we really see the specs of the chipset.

SwitchForce

@SwitchForce
It's not a customised T239, the T239 IS a custom SoC designed by NVidia in partnership with Nintendo specifically for the Switch 2

@skywake I’ll say this I don’t care what the specs are. If we don’t get games like GTA 6 then it’s just another Nintendo console that Nintendo consumers that want to play the best and most popular 3rd party games are forced to go buy another console to do that.

Qwertyninty

MrCarlos46

In any case if GTA 6 comes to Switch 2, it might need to be heavily optimized to run in the case it’s less powerful than an Xbox Series S, because people are also saying power will be at base PS4 levels, but I’m not sure where power will land.

I'm also going to give a more ambitious prediction for the first 6 months: Hyrule Warriors 3. The time scales align for it and it would be another game that gets a dual Switch 1/Switch 2 release (with the Switch 1 release being "only borderline playable" in a way you wouldn't normally expect from Nintendo). I think we get that before a BoTW remaster or WW HD 4K and I don't think we get more than one Zelda game in 2025.

Boom. If anyone wants to know lottery numbers for the weekend let me know.

@StuTwo I will take those lottery numbers please. Thank you for your positive prediction as I can’t wait to get my hands on the new Hyrule Warriors. I love that Nintendo has found so many great ways to extend Zelda.

On Topic: Since I am sitting out launch (I simply want a zelda edition) I will focus on the GameCube controller, procon 2, amiibo and whenever a 1-2TB microsd ex card comes out, that. Otherwise I have a huge switch purchase backlog to clear and will double dip a few switch 2 upgraded games as I am going all digital this time around. By the time the Zelda edition drops I will have a pretty padded switch 2 library and full accessories. Gonna need a new arcade stick too.

With only a few weeks before launch it’s looking as if Switch 2 will indeed be a massive launch for Nintendo. With many analyst predicting this could very well be the biggest console launch ever. With the price increases , especially in software Nintendo will generate record revenue this generation if all goes well. 20 Million units sold is what some analyst are pegging for the launch year. It’s gonna be a massive number of Mario Kart World’s sold in 1 year

@Gryffin Underperformance compared to what standard though?

link3710

Rainz

Apparently the Switch 2 sold appx 3M units on Day 1! The 2 month launch record is 4.5M..so it’s safe to assume …if these numbers are accurate the Switch 2 is having a historical launch! It will be interesting to see if this pace tappers off but all this fuss about the high price and tariffs doesn’t appear to have had any impact on Switch 2
