Well, I'm almost surely right that Nintendo doesn't have a web browser because it's a huge security vulnerability. But I'm not entirely sure how you are "wrong" given you haven't really said anything of substance. Frankly I agree that Nintendo is a bit too heavy handed and I do prefer more open platforms. The only real difference between us is that I'm not taking offense at people answering a simple technical question and accusing them of blind fanboyism when they answer it accurately

Please, I give in, honest I do!

Fair but I thought they'd be less paranoid with the "state of the art flash nand" they put in the console that bricks itself when modified.

@Dhaladog Dude, This is Nintendo IP and they have every right to protect and send out DMCA strikes and File Copyright Infringements and Sue HomeBrewer sites. You clearly don't understand Business this is a Nintendo Bread/Butter. So unless you can make those HomeBrewer/Hacker pay back Nintendo for stealing IP/Software then by all mean go get them boy. Also go ask the Game Developers not the Publishers how do they feel someone stealing their blood/sweat that created their games and never get paid for it. I suspect the reply back won't look so kind if you asked them that.

Curious WTF you're talking about here. Seems like an attempt to get a rise or otherwise is just straight up misinformation

They do have a system where they are banning accounts if they see multiple consoles online at the same time with the same licence key. So perhaps that's what you mean. But that has nothing to do with the storage subsystem and banning an account isn't exactly the same as "bricking" the console

Why all the furore directed against me for hacking/piracy I have never EVER advocated it, and to suggest all those that do Pirate is a lost sale for Nintendo/Developers is just laughable all I see is Nintendo to quote George Carlin 'waving it's *****' at the gaming community in trying to combat it and ending up hurting the general gamer in the process (examples already here and all over the internet) so to me it is a just a non-issue.

Game of Chinese Whispers I suspect. Everything these days is a big drama and by the time it has circled back again it has lost all context and spiralled out of control

I believe possibly there was something in the licence agreement that says unauthorised modifications may render the device unusable and they are not liable for damages. But that's just boilerplate licence agreement stuff and isn't new. The only actual action that Nintendo took is to account ban accounts that were using the same game licences online simultaneously

To be clear, I'm not saying I agree with Nintendo's heavy handedness or the standard legal big hammers that exist in licence agreements. Because I don't. Just saying these kinds of things tend to blow out of all proportion and, to my knowledge, Nintendo are not bricking consoles here

@Dhaladog
I'd just ignore @sethfranum, dude likes to turn everything some grand conspiracy against Nintendo. I've certainly been on the receiving end a few times for as little as simply linking to a DF video speaking positively about the Switch 2

The whole bricking thing comes from one line in the console's EULA which people misinterpreted and ragebaiters ran away with. I checked it myself, it basically just says that if you mod your console, and then a new update makes something incompatible with the mod then your console might be bricked as a result, and if that happens Nintendo won't help you. It absolutely does not say they'll actively try to brick your system for modifying it. Every Nintendo console since the Wii has had something like this in its EULA, as does the PS5. It's just a standard thing to include.
People have since combined that with consoles getting banned from online for piracy, which is another thing entirely.

@CinnamonRobin
Yeah, from what I read it sounded like standard EULA legalese so if that's what we're talking about and not something else I'm unaware of it's a bit of a storm in a teacup. I'm fairly sure if I dug out my original Play It Loud clear GameBoy I probably still have original warranty cards and documentation for it. I reckon if I read through those I'd find some legalese about how the warranty doesn't cover unauthorised modifications. This isn't new stuffs

Kinda what I was getting at on the previous page. There's a bit of a tendency in certain corners of the internet to hyper-dramatize Nintendo right now. I guess partly because it's the new thing and it gets clicks, but also because people just generally like to be angry at something. But all this noise has shifted the window so much that general ambivalence to the drama of the day or just straight up correcting misinformation is being characterised as rabid Nintendo evangelism. It's a bit nuts

.... hopefully it dies down a bit

@Dhaladog You want a browser use your Smartphone/Tablet/PC/Mac. Browser isn't a Nintendo reason to get a Switch console. No one has given any substance why it should even have one. Only those Hacking/HomeBrew launching unauthorized software is the only reason they talk Browser as Switch console is for gaming.

@Dhaladog stop feeding the troll 😂

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

Nep-Nep-Freak

@skywake, So it really is just a "homebrew could lead to accidental bricking" situation like usual instead of "we'll brick your console if you mod it"? In that case, I guess my console being bricked because I do something Nintendo doesn't like doesn't have a chance of happening like I initially feared. Though of course there is the usual "blocked from online services for modding" thing, which is not too bad honestly. That's one of my Switch 2 worries no more! 😊

@Dhaladog No one has given a good factual reason other then just ranting because there is nothing that benefits on Switch1, Switch2 as they are primary for gaming console. But that is already lost in any logical reasoning on some.

I love watching obnoxious people whine when their stupid positions are confronted with the truth/a commonsense position.

Thank you, this thread lol
