Is anyone else having this problem with their switch 2 where the game keeps playing but every so often the screen cuts out it last 2 seconds at most but can ruin game play.
Any one have any thoughts or the same issue?
This has happened with Cyberpunk and Kart World, but more often with CP.
This occasionally happened to me with Switch 1 but hasn't happened with Switch 2 yet, even though I'm still using the same television. It wasn't/isn't that common though, maybe a couple of times a month, so maybe it might happen with the new console too.
That happens to me occasionally on my Series X and Series S. I have tried switching out cords, different HDMI ports on my TV and the only thing I can come up with is it has something to do with the TV. Not quite sure what but that's the only thing I can come up with.

@ca122 I think this has to do with voltage dropping and causing the dock to drop out temporarily. I can't say it is the case yet but I have moved the AC adapter off of the surge protector and connected to a power cord with a tighter grip and it hasn't happened yet. I would suggest checking out your cord set up and seeing if the power from the USBC is correct and consistent.
Tldr it's like when your phone says the USB connection isn't good all your charge rate is reduced, but the system is blacking out.
@intend0H That video within the reddit thread gave me the idea to turn off the TV game mode. I switched the LG mode from game mode to filmmaker mode and while idk if it fixed the blackouts, but cyberpunk looks soooooo much better. I think there's a output conflict with LG TV game mode software and the Switch.
I have this issue with sometimes worse sometimes better in terms of time between it happening, but it happens consistently with my switch across three different docks, four different displays, hdmi and type c video out, no refresh rates or resolution or modes or settings across any displays are the same. The issue is the switch.
@Misima@Polvasti@Truckasaurus This happens on Switch 1 as well. The usual culprit is a loose or damaged HDMI port on the Switch's Dock "Which is a VERY common problem". This will get worse over time until the Switch can no longer be played on a TV "though the console can usually still be charged on the Dock and played in handheld mode". The only real fix aside from DIY which isn't recommended unless you know what you're doing is to either have an expert repair the HDMI slot or send it to Nintendo for repairs. I'd recommend sending it to Nintendo though. When under warranty Nintendo will eat the cost, if not, while more expensive than a repair shop, if Nintendo messes up and your console breaks during repairs they will replace it for no additional cost.
Likely anyone having this has some sort of cable issue. Whether that's a faulty cable, a cable not up to spec or maybe even a high level of interference. Especially if it happens during a game
If you're just seeing this when the console boots or when you load specific games? It's probably just your TV changing display modes. Turning on/off HDR, changing the refresh rate etc. That behaviour is normal
If you're sure it's not the cable and it happens all the time then it gets a bit more complex. At that point it could be a fault in the TV, a fault in the dock, a fault in the power adaptor. At that point it's a case of just isolating the problem until you can find the cause. And a forum isn't really going to help much with that
@skywake It's probably not a cable issue, because in the other thread we had on this subject, several people (including me) reported this happening to them with a brand new Switch 2, using the included HDMI cable straight out of the box.
Also, in that other thread it was mentioned that the reason for the blackouts is Nintendo's HDMI handshake:
it's been confirmed by a couple of tech outfits, this is because Nintendo has a proprietary handshake program now that makes the dock fail USB and HDMI connections. They're trying to block off ways to hack the system through ports.
It sounds like it was a faulty dock in that case, but a faulty cable is still more likely overall.
Also, you're a lot more likely to have a spare cable on hand, so that's the thing that you should be checking first. At the opposite end of the scale, you probably won't have a spare console or dock, so they're the last things to consider.
For what it's worth, the proprietary protocol appears to be between the console and the dock. I don't think there's anything out of the ordinary going on between the dock and the TV, so failures there are a lot more likely to be hardware related.
@Matt_Barber It's between the system and the dock and the dock and the HDMI cable. Basically, a small voltage change from the HDMI can trigger the system to revalidate the dock which causes the handshake to restart which drops the screen to black for a moment.
Nintendo was trying to prevent the USB c from being used to hijack the system with a handshake protocol and in doing so they made it very finicky. That's why match power state will usually fix the issue. Because it's not checking the power state looking for the voltage drop. If you turn that protocol off, you can no longer turn on the TV with the power button or the switch 2 pro-controller/joycon, nor can you switch HDMI inputs automatically either. It's a minor annoyance where you will have to use more than one controller to get to the game. Considering we had to get up and turn systems on for most of my life, it's not a big deal, but people need to know
TURN OFF POWER MATCH if you have this issue.
If it happens with that off then I think you need a new dock.
