@metaphysician, wait, Tokyo Xanadu has a time limit during exploration? Or are you just referring to regular speedrunning?
I'm just making sure, because time-limited exploration is the reason that I'm skipping the DLC for Pokémon Legends Z-A.

Oh, nothing like that. What I mean is that the dungeons themselves are rated, with better rewards the higher your rating. And your are encouraged to play them as fast as possible, because it generates a better rating both directly and indirectly. However, you can't fail a dungeon ( there is no max time allowed ), and you can replay a given dungeon as many times as you wish, and even the ranking system itself is fairly lenient ( I earned an S rank on my first try at least half the time ).

Outside the dungeons themselves, the game has no Persona or Atelier style time limits. You can't do every "social link" in a given chapter, but this is conventional "can't do every side quest in a single playthrough" design. You are never put on a non-narrative clock for completing events, and learning about your party members and NPCs is optional and purely about bonding with them as people.

Kyoto xanadu's gameplay in dungeons actually looks very similar to the legend of nayuta boundless trails,
https://www.falcom.co.jp/kyoxana/

Ys X proud nordics comes out next week too,

I'm still getting through trails beyond the horizon and I'm currently on the final part of act 2, really enjoying the game so far, the game really needs a sequel.

@xenobladexfan, I've heard of this Legend of Nayuta Boundless Trails from Falcom before, and I looked at it a bit on GAMEYE. I'm kind of curious about it. Does it have anything to do with the other Trails series that has been talked about in this thread?

Not really, Nayuta is a standalone spinoff that plays more like Ys than it does Trails. Still very good though if you're in the mood for more of a classic action RPG.

@xenobladexfan, I literally checked on again just one second after you posted 🤣. Anyway, that is good to know.

@Nep-Nep-Freak cool that's good, in terms of Falcom games I would rank nayuta as better than ys ix but not as good as kiseki trails.

As someone whose played both Nayuta and the Trails series: they have no actual connection. Like, there are a few common names and some similar stylistic sensibilities, but its no more a connection than between different Final Fantasy titles. Nayuta is in its own world, no ambiguity, and it doesn't even have similar thematics. I've heard some people describe it as a "renamed Zwei 3", and from my admittedly limited knowledge of the Zwei games, that seems plausible.

Don't take this to mean one should avoid Nayuta, its a good game well worth playing. Its just not part of the Trails metaplot in any way shape or form.

Found a intrusting article on reddit, saying about trails beyond the horizon sequel and in addition the company has grown to 80 employees, remember this is translated by fans so it may be inaccurate in some instances but its intrusting nonetheless.
Also Estelle and Joshua are rumoured to appear in the very last game in the series after the calvard arc ends:

@xenobladexfan I mean, we know Trails is almost done at this point, right? IIRC it's like 90% done. I haven't played Horizon yet (still on the Daybreak games,) but from what i understand, it features every protagonist so far minus Lloyd, Estelle, and Joshua. So for the finale, it would make sense for them to bring it all back to where it started, since everyone else just got their moment. Wouldn't be surprised in the final credits sequence was their wedding in the same vein as Cold Steel IV's credits, honestly.

Half-decent at Ace Attorney and horrible at strategy games, but I love them both.

@Bluelink45 I'm really enjoying trails beyond the horizon and while it is one of the best games in the series, I feel sad at the same time, that a series that I love and enjoy so much, is coming to an end.

On Lloyds behalf, its odd that the developers didn't include him in horizon because his name is constantly mentioned in dialogue with party members and he is one of my favourite trails protagonist.

As for the wedding that you mentioned is that something to do with Van Arkride or Estelle/Joshua because as far as I know, Estelle and Joshua are the only characters in the series that have a chosen romantic partner with rean and lloyd still single.

Sure, it makes me a little melancholy that the series is coming to a close ( with only 1-2 games left most likely ). . . but if they even bring it to a mostly successful conclusion, that would be the cherry on top of an almost unthinkably ambitious work.

metaphysician

Bluelink45

@xenobladexfan Estelle and Joshua.
Honestly, call me crazy, but I'm kinda happy Trails is coming to an end. A series continuing for too long can hurt it, and (imo) Trails kinda suffers from that. Daybreak so far has felt so.... unnessesary? There's some questions left about the divergent laws, if Rean is connected to them, Campellena(just... Campellena.), and Ouroboros as a group, but other than that, Reverie felt like a series conclusion, leaving Daybreak kinda floundering in the overarching plot department. I'll get back to you once I'm done with the final dungeon, but, honestly, if the series ended with Reverie or Cold Steel IV, I would've been fine.

I'm happy to hear Lloyd gets mentioned a decent bit in Horizon. The Crossbell games are my favorites by far, so its nice to hear they aren't fully forgotten.

Half-decent at Ace Attorney and horrible at strategy games, but I love them both.

@metaphysician I think the next game, the sequel to trails beyond the horizon will be the last calvard arc game, and after that I would guess a few more games in a new arc.

@Bluelink45 I feel sorry for Lloyd only having two games when he clearly deserves a 3rd or 4th game, there are a few things the developers haven't shown players yet such as what happens to him after the crossbell games end, I know he appears in cold steel iv and reverie but it would be good to see him doing his brother's role and when his brother was 25, he had a relationship with Cecile, it would be intrusting to see something simular for Lloyd.

Daybreak ii felt unnecessary while I did spend 90 hours on the game, it felt more akin to dlc for Daybreak 1 rather than building to the lore of the trails series as a whole.

On the subject of Ys i was playing that crossover game recently (the one with trails in the sky) was a fun arena fighter though it does also make me wonder what it would be like if they took another shot at that kind of game with a bigger roster to pool from since it was pretty much exclusively Ys seven and Trails in the sky characters at the time.

Also did put me in the mood for some Ys, am curious to see when celceta on switch comes west or if a potential Ys Seven port could happen down the line, especially since i feel the modern ports of other PSP releases have ended up looking fine on switch (psp has that distinct look somewhere between psone and ps2 which i feel can still look nice upscaled well)

@Mgalens on amazon uk it says that celceta is listed for end of March this year for switch 1, I enjoy ys, its a great franchise with not enough representation on switch.

Also found that an intrusting interview with Durante who developed the crossbell games for switch and the upcoming ys x proud nordics:

am happy to hear that PH3 are working with switch 2 also since they did really good work and am looking forward to see what they bring to the system in the future, does make me hope in the future that if Daybreak 1 and 2 do get native switch 2 releases that PH3 could work their magic since it seems theyve set the benchmark for switch 2 falcom games.

Oh, sure. However, based on their official statements about the series progress, I can't imagine that final arc being more than another two games. Unless they changed their mind about how close to the conclusion they are, anyway.

I certainly wouldn't complain, but I suspect its impractical. Not unless it was deliberately retro and redid newer characters in the Napishtim/OGSky engine. Building a functional fighting game out of newer engine assets would require practically building each character from scratch.

I remember it taking Falcom forever to move on to newer systems. They were so stuck on Vita and PS3, eventually shifting to PS4. Slowly the started releasing games on Switch and then PS5.

But with Switch 2 they jumped right in. Ys X: Proud Nordics, Trails in the Sky 1st, Trails Beyond the Horizon, Trails in the Sky 2nd, Kyoto Xanadu... it's barely been more than half a year on the market!

Speaking of which, thoughts on Kyoto Xanadu?
