@VoidofLight Not everyone has a high end PC to play triple A games, and not everyone would even prefer that. Just because you don't use yours doesn't mean Sony didn't make the system worth buying.

Meanwhile, peoples here really derailed the thread for talking trash about PS5 Pro on Next Nintendo Direct thread.
I personally wonder and felt funny if the intention to buy PS5 Pro with more power & price just only for playing simple kids games that doesn't even need ultra specs like Peppa Pig or Bluey or even Barbie. 😆
And it will be funnier if the performance of those simple kids games way much better on PS5 Pro than the Switch version with some hiccups. That means the Switch power cannot handle those kids games properly and it shown the outdated technology of Switch machine in handling certain 3rd party games.
I mean, come on...
The simple kids games with size 1 GB like Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life or Doraemon Story of Seasons can run in smooth 60 fps on at least PS4 power but 30 fps (and below) for Switch version?
That was lazy excuse to not optimize their fps to have same 60 fps on both Switch and PlayStation version.

@Sigran102 Oh I know that. The issue with the PS5 isn't that it isn't worth buying because of PC, but it isn't worth buying because the games they have to offer aren't something you couldn't just get on other platforms. Sony has 0 games worth getting a PS5 for when you could just get most of those games on PS4, PC, or XBOX. Also the argument that "Not everyone can get a PC" is starting to become more and more moot as console generations begin rising the price higher and higher. The PS5 Pro is going to be 800 dollars retail. For that money you could literally just build a decent quality gaming rig and no longer be shackled to the ecosystem of Sony in the first place.

At this point in time Consoles are slowly trending to become worse gaming PCs. You pay a similar amount for something on par with a PC, but instead of it being a multi-purpose machine that doesn't tie you down to a specific ecosystem- you're at the mercy of the corporation who is roping you into their ecosystem. Being told when and how you can play your games. Sony is able to remove your digital games from your Playstation library at any time they choose. PC has a ton of work-arounds to the point that even if a game is taken off of steam, it isn't the only way to get ahold of said game.

Anyway, we will see Level-5 presentation on this September.
Something that should be aware for their upcoming games.

Sony isn't going to fail any time soon, if only because there's a demand for high-performance home consoles out there and the people running Microsoft's Xbox division are clueless as to how to run a successful console gaming brand. Also, the Playstation brand name is still massive throughout the world.

That said, I agree that the PS5 feels like their first almost completely skippable console if you already own a mid-range gaming PC. Actually, to be honest, even if I didn't own one, their first-party output is just not that appealing any more, bar one or two games. Even many of their biggest supporters will grudgingly admit to this.

No hate to anyone who loves their PS5, of course. But they've lost me as a customer for now.

@Ralizah Exactly. I don't think Sony is going to fail, but they've at least lost me as a customer. I only bought a PS5 for Yoko Taro's next game, Final Fantasy, and Persona/other Atlus games. Given that Square and Atlus are going to be trying to get their games on as many platforms as possible day 1, I don't really have a need for more than just a Switch and Gaming rig.

Another thing to add is that paying for PS+ is another reason I don't tend to buy games on my PS5 anymore. PS+ is expensive as hell, and all I'd use it for is to play online with others. Something which is free on PC.

@Ralizah
I mean, there was somebody bought PS5 just for playing 3rd party kids games , didn't care with AAA 1st party Sony games.
Peoples still forget this one, the 3rd party kids games.
PS5 have Barbie, Bluey, Peppa Pig, etc.
Are those games really a joke for them or they just don't want to admit?

The console wars are alive and well I see. I play both Nintendo and Playstation about equally, so it's hard to imagine hoping one will fail just to stick it to their fans.

No one in this discussion is hoping PlayStation as a whole fails, we're just wondering what the point of a more expensive PS5 Pro is. If it was a revision which was the same price, it wouldn't be controversial. We certainly like complaining here whenever Nintendo makes weird choices, so I think we are allowed to do the same to PlayStation occasionally.

I think PS5 Pro will make simple kids games gameplay become way much superior with 4K and 120 fps.
Playing Bluey in 4K, 120 fps, ray tracing with even faster loading time from PS5 Pro?
That's very luxurious way to play kids games. 😆

As of right now, Echoes of Wisdom doesn't have an overview trailer, which is very interesting. A lot of times the overview trailer releases about a month before the game comes out. The game is less than 3 weeks away, and this week is becoming increasingly less likely, so it'll be fairly close to launch we get this trailer at the earliest.

Sometimes a Direct will happen before a game release which includes a trailer for said game, sometime afterwards is the overview trailer. With games like Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, this happened.

My theory is that it also can be later when other games release close to it (after that game releases) like we saw with Super Mario RPG being 2 weeks after WarioWare Move It!, and WarioWare Move It! 2 weeks after Super Mario Bros Wonder. WarioWare Move It!'s overview was after Wonder and Super Mario RPG's was after Move It! (If I'm getting the days correct), which meant a fairly close overview trailer to release.

Echoes of Wisdom isn't really right after another game, so that doesn't seem to be the problem. That means either Nintendo simply decided to have a later overview trailer for whatever reason, or this could be pointing towards a potential Direct including Echoes of Wisdom (probably a shorter trailer like LM2HD in June 2024 Direct).

You could probably make the argument that the two big six-minute trailers Echoes Of Wisdom got over the last month count as overview trailers, maybe there's just too much ground to cover for a single one and Nintendo is trying something different.

StarryCiel

Grumblevolcano

@PikminMarioKirby For this year's releases, the overview trailers were:

  • Another Code Recollection - December 15th (release January 19th)
  • Splatoon 3 Side Order DLC - February 13th (release February 22nd)
  • Mario vs. DK - February 1st (release February 16th)
  • Princess Peach Showtime - March 7th (release March 22nd)
  • Endless Ocean Luminous - April 18th (release May 2nd)
  • TTYD - April 25th (release May 23rd)
  • LM2 HD - June 20th (release June 27th)
  • NWC NES - July 11th (release July 18th)
  • Emio - There wasn't an overview trailer, they used that demo approach instead

I feel as though Jamboree needs an overview trailer more than Echoes of Wisdom at the moment so maybe Jamboree overview trailer whenever previews go live and then Echoes of Wisdom overview trailer on the 19th.

@FishyS you literally just said you hope the switch 2 is announced shortly after the PS5 pro so that it destroys the hype for it. I just get so tired of console elitism. It comes from Nintendo fans just as much as Sony and PC fans. A new game system that you aren't buying doesn't affect you. Nothing for everyone to get so upset over, especially in a Nintendo site/thread. Can't we just be excited for the stuff we like without trashing the stuff other people like?

Sigran102

FishyS

@Sigran102 a) I was mostly joking and b) There is finite media attention and if the consoles are being announced near each other I would rather Nintendo get that attention because I want Switch 2 to do well. And c) As I said, PS5 is fine and I even want it to do well because it is good for the industry but a more expensive PS5 pro seems like a weird decision; if you think Nintendo fans won't trash Nintendo about weird decisions you haven't been paying attention to this website so I wouldn't really call it console elitism. Console elitism certainly exists, but the questioning of PS5 Pro isn't really part of it.

@PikminMarioKirby Good point about Echoes of Wisdom reveal trailer, and I also think the recent trailers for Mario Party and Mario and Luigi were both weirdly unrevealing, with the name of Concordia seemingly being the only new thing of note. This is very wishful thinking, but I almost wonder if they're gearing up for some sort of "Nintendo Spotlight" 1st party only presentation in the next couple weeks. It could include updates on the aforementioned games + Prime 4 and DKC, maybe the reveal of DLC for games like Wonder or Pikmin 4, and then finally reveal the switch 2 and some (or all if its coming as soon as Spring) of its launch lineup.

🎵 Hello, hello, hello, hello, ba-na-na! 🎵

Sigran102

@FishyS I agree that questioning the PS5 pro isn't elitism, but people are also trashing the PS5 in general. Nintendo fans do complain about Nintendo a lot, but they're complaining because what they want isn't happening. Complaining about another console that you don't even want just because you're annoyed that other people like it is elitism. But I don't want to derail the thread any more, so this is my last post on the subject. Feel free to respond though.

Sigran102

FishyS

@Sigran102 As far as I can tell from reading other threads on this forum, most of the people here who most complain about PS5 either have one or are considering getting one. 😆 Plus some who would want one if Sony was doing things differently this gen. From a personal point of view, I wish PlayStation and Nintendo both sold tons more and took some of the PC gaming market. I am biased for consoles in general (well, I am kind of indifferent towards xbox just because I've never had one and none of their exclusives interest me).

Getting back to the subject at hand (Directs) which you quoted me on, I do think it makes sense for Nintendo to wait until After Sony to make an announcement. If any of us are even correct about both those announcements happening this month. If I were Nintendo I would certainly attempt to monopolize the gaming news as much as possible for a time.

Unrelated to the PS5 Pro, but assuming the rumour about an OLED Mario Wonder bundle is true, do you guys think it increases or decreases the chances of a Switch 2 hardware/software reveal?

Hope you're having a good day.

FishyS

Lots of maintenances recently.

@Grumblevolcano What do you think the chances are they are modifying the eShop to add the capability to display Switch 2 games (presumably with a link to Switch 2 info) or specially mark games as 'enhanced version on Switch 2' or such?

Perhaps I am being overly optimistic.
