@FragRed Oh yeah I always figured it would be Grezzo developing it.

@Grumblevolcano So probably October/November for Part 1 then Early 2024 for Part 2.

Looks like the DLC leaked on 4chan ahead of time. That last line is the most important part though - Switch 2 in early 2024 it seems, given that the rest of the leak has proven to be 100% correct.

@Bolt_Strike Would you say 2D Zelda is likely for the launch year? I feel like it would be a strong support title assuming it's a new entry and not another remake. It's been nearly 4 years since Link's Awakening...

I think 2001 was the last time they released two Zeldas in one year. It’s more likely 2024 or later. « New switch models » could mean a new console, some sort of half-upgrade, the OLED model, or be bad translation/false information thrown in there to troll people. I mean it is 4chan.

@IceClimbers the models leaked weeks ago so that post is only half true in what it was predicting.

Yeah, I went back and read this rumor and caught onto the "new Switch models" and caught onto how vague that language is too, nothing there specifies a new generation console. I can buy new hardware is happening, it'll have been 3 years since the OLED and they almost always have some kind of hardware in that timeframe, but this isn't exactly conclusive evidence that a new generation is releasing this year (although I still believe it is, but this post is not definitive proof of that). With that kind of wording we can't rule out a very late Switch Pro, or a Switch OLED Mini, or some other funky Switch revision instead.

@ElRoberico Not really (while BotW released on March 3rd 2017 and MK8 Deluxe released on April 28th 2017, the gap is almost 2 months), just that I think they will release something in June given there's been a retail release in June for the whole of the Switch era and many years prior to that.

So, @Grumblevolcano & co., with only around 50 days left until TotK, what are we thinking about if/when an exclusive Direct might occur?

@imagazelle Well before the announcement TotK wouldn't be at PAX East, I thought it would be March 22nd at the latest followed by the game being playable at PAX East. Now I'm starting to lean towards no TotK specific Direct but rather a general Direct on the week beginning April 10th to take advantage of the hype surrounding the Mario Movie. A general Direct in April would also explain why they're skipping E3.

Stuff I think would be present in the Direct:

  • Advance Wars demo with save data transfer to the full game
  • TotK (including DLC announcement)
  • Pikmin 4
  • Baten Kaitos 1+2 release date
  • MK8 Deluxe DLC wave 5
  • XC3 DLC wave 4
  • FE Engage DLC wave 4
  • Splatoon 3 Season 4 tease and first proper look at Side Order DLC
  • Switch Sports update
  • Filling out the Summer/Fall lineup
  • More 3rd party announcements

I'm thinking we get a trailer or two for TotK in mid-April (post Mario Movie) and a launch trailer in early May, but that's about it. I don't think they end up doing a blowout on it.

Other than that I think it'll just be NSO updates and Advance Wars until late May when we get some details about Splatoon 3 content. Maybe an Indie World in April.

June onwards I think we get Twitter shadow drops for everything 1st party until September, with a Partner Showcase in late June. Just like they did last year. Maybe a Pikmin 4 Direct if we're lucky, but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't bother.

@imagazelle In the Wii U era, plenty. In the Switch era, while the E3 2017 presentation wasn't called a Direct there was a 2 month gap between the April 2017 Direct and E3 2017.

But yeah, I get the feeling that Nintendo don't want to show much of TotK but they don't really have much to show outside of TotK. So I think that suggests 1 of 2 things:

  • A bunch of DLC shadow drops in April
  • Nintendo announces more of the summer/fall lineup in April, keeping TotK info to a minimum (e.g. a short trailer with DLC being announced at the end)

I wouldn't rule out an April direct, especially since Nintendo has been bucking quite a few trends this year so far: a major shadow drop, a remastered game under $60, going above and beyond for their initial retread DLC in MK8D.

@Grumblevolcano Like I mentioned above, I think NSO updates, an Indie World, Advance Wars marketing, and a trailer for TotK is enough to skate by in April, and really enough until after TotK is out when they need to detail the next season of Splatoon 3 content.

There's no need to announce anything major or shadow drop anything when they'll be riding high off of Mario Movie buzz and anticipation for Zelda. Once we get into June they'll start talking DLC and upcoming releases.

I'm cool with radio silence until a Partner Direct in June.

I don't doubt there are several third party games that would appreciate a spotlight.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,540 games (as of January 28th, 2026)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)

ElRoberico

An Indie World sounds kind of like heaven, not gonna lie. I would do things for another taste of Sea of Stars.

I don’t see a full direct happening in June.

Since Nintendo isnt attending E3, it’ll mostly likely be a partner direct or a mini one this year.

@Grumblevolcano like i have reitareted severals times, Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom dont need a huge marketing campaing to suceed, just Breath of the Wild impact in the franchise will be enough to make the game sales explode, i believe in june/july Nintendo will do the first Indie World showcase of the year(hopefully with a release window or release date of Hollow Kinght Silksong) and then in setembre they will do the tradicional setembre Nintendo Direct with games releasing next year and holiday schedule for Nintendo Switch, wave 5 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will problaby be avalible in june or july

Nintendo simply said they didn’t have anything they wanted to show at E3 so why would that change by Nintendo showing everything in a separate thing instead? It will mostly likely be a partner direct or a mini one to the displeasure of the social media Nintendo fan base I’m sure

They said they aren't going (much like Sony and Microsoft), not that they don't have anything to show.

@Euler Yeah, i meant to also say they aren’t going. They said the reason they aren’t going is because they had nothing to show that they wanted to show.

Not true. They said they're not going because the event doesn't fit into their plans. That's a polite way of saying they're not going to reveal the reason.
