@rallydefault If I have to join discord to enjoy a game or it's buried features, they've already lost me. I guess I'm turning old. Thank you, though.<3
@BenAV To be fair, I don't own a Switch 2 yet so I can't speak on whether I think they're good or not. I have seen a lot of players voice their complaints online but as I'm yet to experience it myself I'm not sure whether the outrage is valid or not.
I just have a gripe with the term 'intermission tracks' though.
@Dr_Corndog
Well, let’s just think for a sec: Switch 2 sold 3.5 million consoles at launch, and we know 80% of those were the bundle. So at minimum you have 2.8 million people who own Mario Kart.
So when you wanna talk what “most people” think, just keep those numbers in mind and ask yourself if you’re assuming too much.
I’m around 8000 VR right now. Nothing to sneeze at! Some of the streamers like Shortcat are only around 8500. Pushing 9k is tough for even the really really good players.
@Dr_Corndog
Indeed, but again, an underlying theme here is that we have no way of knowing exactly how many people that actually is unless Nintendo would release play data, which they almost never do.
I love Intermissions and honestly don't get the hate whatsoever. To me they are super fun, nicely varied, and overall a good time (moreso than 3 lap races, IMPO). That said, I understand why ppl want the choice between 3 lap and Intermission races.
@rallydefault For sure. I'm speaking largely of my own experience. But I was a bit confused when you brought up sales figures, because I admitted that the people upset right now are a minority of the overall player base.
I've never fully understood the why's as to the layouts of the tracks and the amount of laps each time.
I mean, I sort of understood it, and I've thought about it more since seeing some backlash after the most recent update to the game, but I've been enjoying the core gameplay so much that..I haven't paid hardly any attention to the amount of laps or course layouts.
I only ever play online, really, about 30 hours so far, but it's always a quick thing to play another online match after one ends, so, multiple-lap course or singular lap, this route or that route, I'll be back in the action quickly. Plus, I've been enjoying the mixing up of the routes and lap-count.
And I put in a heap of hours in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
So, no complaints from this predominately online Mario Kart World user.
I find it funny that after releasing games that heavily encourage a multiude of options for the player to choose and build on, Nintendo decided to do a complete 180 on that front with MKWorld.
@rallydefault That's mainly just because in this case 'different' is just holding A to drive in a straight line for 2/3 of the race. I think a lot of players would probably be open to something different if they came up with something a bit more engaging.
Just got a Mario Kart World survey from Nintendo just now.
I had things to say!
Felt good to complain directly to Nintendo about the price, the lack of 3 laps on each track, missing modes etc.
It was actually a decent servey.
$100 to be able to rent 30 year old games, pinch me now!
Well... I can finally say I have all cups at 3*** level in 150cc/mirror mode - across both 'Grand Prix' and 'Knockout'
Knockout was no joke, and the requirement to hold your lead at each crossing/lap felt like insanity at times. I finally let go of the concept of 'playing bad' to ensure the AI doesn't go full Skynet, and instead just played my best from the outset - which actually made the game a lot more fun.
There are 2 knockout cups that are wildly horrible though, Spiny cup being one, where the intinial laps are very short... so far that it is a real challenge to be in 1st place by end of lap 1.
Dabbling a bit with online now, and dont a few time trials (vs ghosts) but I think I am pretty much done and satisfied with the game now. I have no desire to undertake the open-world collect-a-thon, especially with no means to internally track your pickups per area (madness that this isn't patched in yet)
In terms of value, having got the MKWorld bundle @ 420 £GBP - that extra 20£ was absolutely worth it, and a steal. However, if I had paid 80£ for the physical... I think I would have felt slightly robbed. The game does feel fairly under-baked in several areas - and most obviously the open world. I would have loved more kart/character customisation though, and maybe something kind of similar to Monster Hunter (go out on missions/races, collect parts, come back and spec your character and vehicle)
Overall I'd prob give MKW a solid 7. A pretty fun time, especially with friends/online, but IMO not a 'system seller' game like Odyssey or BotW.
@BenAV "That's mainly just because in this case 'different' is just holding A to drive in a straight line for 2/3 of the race"
No it isn't. That's ridiculous hyperbole and simply not true.
They know, they’re just doing the internet thing where you have to exaggerate to a laughable degree.
I somehow won my very first online race in the game the other day, and it was a Knockout Tour as well xD Looks like Piranha Plant is my lucky charm/new main!
