Topic: Launch Titles???

DS I was about a year and a half after launch but since then I've been within a year. Wii I got it about a month after launch, 3DS was almost a few months, Wii U and Switch I got on day 1. Wii U to be fair I was more hesitant than my day 1 purchase would suggest

I probably would have got Switch 2 on day 1 and I might still if the launch games are super compelling. But I think this time around I might be closer to 3DS than Wii U. Certainly first year, but maybe not day 1

I assume the Switch will get a Rise-esq sequel, but how buck wild would Japan be if Monster Hunter Wilds were on the Switch successor at launch? The MH fandom would probably be frothing at the mouth a little, questioning themselves if they should purchase a Playstation or Switch copy.

What a stunt it would be if Switch 2 would launch together with Elder Scrolls 6

But chances are the Switch 2 will get the rumored Oblivion Remake.

i think our 3D mario and Mario Kart X is due, so that will be nintendo’s priority. i wouldnt be suprised at a kirby remaster (wasnt there a trademark filed for kirbys rainbow curse or something a few months ago?) also botw remake seems highly possible, and prime 4 will be crossgen i think ^_^ im mostly excited for whatever new ip they come out with, especially with that strange playtest that happened a few months ago. i want a new animal crossing, but i think all we will get is a teaser for its release 😔😔😔

We obviously need some new banger 1st party game (3D Mario, Mario Kart etc) but if it was me, I would also throw in a "DLSS 4K" Remaster of Zelda Wind Waker or Twilight Princess. Almost like a tech demo of what the new platform is capable of, the best looking Zelda game ever made, with every visual asset remade specifically for the Switch 2 hardware. If you look at the Zelda sales numbers, both games have sold considerably less than BOTW and TOTK, so there are lots of Zelda players out there that have never played those games.

@Magician well, my uncle at nintendo told me mk9 is releasing in February for Alarmo…/jk 😹
i said ten because i honestly think nintendo would count Home Circut or Tour as MK9, especially since Mario Kart X sounds a lot more flashier than Mario Kart Nine. But maybe it will be mario kart nine, who knows 🤷🏽‍♀️

You may or may not know this but the Japanese word for "nine" is pronounced similarly to the word for "suffering" and is therefore considered unlucky in Japan. If Apple, an American company choose to outright avoid the number at every opportunity, then you can bet your bottom dollar Nintendo will too. Whether that be by giving it a subtitle, à la 'Double Dash' or skipping a digit to ten, however, remains to be seen, though if I were to hazard a guess, my money would be on the former.

As we know all too well by now, Nintendo generally avoid controversary at every turn, however minor. It therefore seems probable that they'll name it after whatever new gimmick they choose to add to the game this time around or indeed after the new console itself, as they did with 64.

I knew the Japanese avoid using the number four, "Death". So much so that actual buildings avoid having a "fourth" floor. But I was unaware of their avoidance of nine as well.

@Magician Okay, that one's a good shout 😂 Some companies clearly choose to take their national superstitions more seriously than others, I'll give you that. I just think Nintendo under Furukawa are more conservative leaning than ever these days, so will choose to play it safe on this occasion. Whether that translates into a good name or not, we'll just have to wait and see.

So I have no idea what would be at launch but here is my best case scenario idea:

New semi-casual Nintendo IP game
Super Mario Odyssey 2 (everyone who said there doesn't need to be a 2nd one is wrong and they should feel bad)
Metroid Prime 4
Red Dead Redemption 2 port
Hollow Knight: Silksong
That Shovel Knight re-release thing, why not?
One of the new Level 5 games
And like a dozen other mid tier to indie games. (hoping at least one of them is a follow up to one of the early switch games like Puyo Tetris or Disgaea, because that would be fun)

Also not a ton of games because Switch launch >>>>> Wii U launch, lack of quantity is the correct way to go, because people will then actually buy the 3rd party games. :V

Lets assume for a minute that new 3D Mario game is NOT a launch title...what is a strong enough 1st party line up for launch? Would Mario Kart be enough? Would they need another game to go with it like Luigi's Mansion 4 or Arms 2?

@MarioBrickLayer Think it’s either got to be 3D Mario or Mario Kart. What else does Nintendo have that’s as big as those two? There’s not going to be a major Zelda game for several more years at minimum.
