@Discokuningas Huh. I thought version 1.0.1 worked. Mine is stuck at 1.0.0.
Did you buy it from the Switch 2 eshop by any chance? If so you should be able to get reimbursed.
And If you tell Nintendo it doesn't work it may help them notice it's broken... I told them but it's still marked in the compatibility list as fully works on Switch 2 so they may need complaints from more people.
If you have the digital eshop version and you’re having trouble launching Klonoa, have you tried going to the Virtual Game Cards section from the HOME Menu, ejecting the Virtual Game Card for Klonoa, and then trying to launch it? That typically prompts the system to ask if you’d like to re‑insert the card—just say yes when it asks. That trick worked for me!
Hey everyone. I just found a potential hack/workaround for this issue, but I've only gotten it to work twice out of about 100 tries, so don't get your hopes up too much.
(Note 1: This crash issue is not necessarily related to the version. A friend of mine who also has the digital version of Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series reported to me that they have v.1.0.0 but are able to start the game reliably on their Switch 2. This might explain why Bandai Namco didn't hop on making v1.0.1 available digitally.)
(Note 2: I also tried changing users, deleting and re-downloading the game, transferring to and from an original Switch via virtual game card, manually updating, moving the game to and from system memory and the storage card, deleting the save data, turning on/off the "user select before starting game" option, and a few other things. Nothing worked.)
Steps:
1. Download the digital version of the game onto your Switch 2.
2. Start the game.
3. When the screen turns black, right when you see the "Nintendo Switch" logo in the lower right corner of the screen (BEFORE the crash) press the Switch 2 Home button to return to the Home menu.
4. If this worked, on the Home menu you'll see your bouncing user profile icon to the left of the word "Playing" on the Klonoa game icon. (If you just see the words "Playing" on the icon, it didn't work.)
6. Select the game again to go back into it.
I repeat that this has only worked twice for me out of over 100 tries. If you "win the lottery" in this way, you should see the Bandai Namco splash screen instead of the dreaded crash screen when you reselect the game on the Home screen.
I realize this is not a reliable method, but it did work twice for me so far. I had to load and crash and load and crash over and over again quickly before this worked. Once the game is running, it's stable, but if you close the game you have to try these steps all over again.
Sucks that this should be an issue for a small percentage of people, because Bandai Namco is far less likely to pay attention to it.
@Jupiterparlance Ha, that's funny. the fact that the demo works well and it's totally hit or miss if the full game opens is pretty weird.
I've tried a lot of things. I even tried buying the dlc to see if that changed anything but it was still broken so I spoke to Nintendo and got the DLC refunded. I wonder if I managed to get the game on a to-investigate list this time.
@Jupiterparlance Dude, that's insane that you have to go through that much trouble to be able to play the game. Nintendo needs to get their rear in gear and fix the issue!

Given the number of people in this thread who have had issues plus some reddit posts etc combined with the fact that not that many people would have tried this fairly old game on Switch 2, I suspect it's not a small percentage. A minority perhaps, but when I asked 3 random people on discord to test it, one of them had the same problem.
@topsekret Totally agree. It's absurd. This is not a practical solution, though this thread is the top in search results for this issue, so I hope some people will see it and find that all the steps they were planning to try aren't going to work. At the very least I hope it will save them some effort.
@Jupiterparlance I just hope more people report it to both Bandai and Nintendo. The fact that it is still being sold on the Switch 2 eshop with a marking that it is fully compatible with Switch 2 is the worst part. Whether or not they fix it they really need to acknowledge the issue.
p.s. I tried your method like 20 times with no luck. I am not going to try it a 100 😆
@FishyS Totally don't blame you! 😂 It's just not practical sitting there spamming the A button and home button and crashing over and over. I hope that my report to NB and Nintendo customer service will add to the traction.
The compatibility notes are one of those things which are a good idea in theory but in practice dont seem to account for bugs/glitches and are usually related to whether the game boots or not (in this case that doesnt even seem to apply)
Does make me wonder if theres a way to directly report these things to nintendo or something.

I believe the answer is no. I have talked to Nintendo thrice about this now. The first time they didn't seem to care at all and said I could try again if I felt like it. So I tried again. The second time I got forwarded up the chain and they basically acknowledged what I said but basically said 'what are we gonna do about it'. I then gave up on Nintendo and tried Bandai who acknowledged the issue but thought the issue might be on Nintendo's side so suggested I contact them. Bandai did say the issue would likely go on an extremely long backlog list of issues.
The third time I called Nintendo with getting the DLC refunded as an excuse. I mentioned that the problem affected other people as well and they said 'thank you for the information' but I don't know if they did anything beyond refunding.
The system patch which just dropped a few minutes ago seems to have fixed Klonoa! Maybe our complaints to Nintendo made them notice the issue afterall.
@FishyS Awesome! I wonder if they'll retroactively update the Klonoa eShop page to acknowledge the original issue and the fix. They did this with Gunbird 2: the eShop page didn't ever indicate that there were problems with the game on Switch 2 until after they released the fix.
@FishyS Many thanks for letting us know. Very kind of you.
I’ll download it again now to check it out myself. Fingers crossed it will work. I’ve been wanting to play this game since i bought my Switch 2 so it’s about time everything will work as intended this time around.

@FishyS
Great news, this was one of the games i was really hoping would get a fix (now just to wait to see if/when the FMV issue on Trails to Zero/from azure gets its fix and im mostly set since thats the other fix i was most hoping for)
will likely pick this up eventually since i enjoyed the games back in the day though heared the collection on switch 1 was somewhat unstable performance wise compared to the originals but the switch 2 seems to fix that (does make me wish those recent tales remasters at least had the option to unlock the framerate for switch 2 futureproofing)
Does the game work on Switch 2 yet? I'm still at work so I can't test anything right now. I still play Klonoa on GBA sometimes but I would really like to play these games on the Switch 2's larger screen.
