Sorry to post again, it's just that I'm working myself up into such a state over potentially damaging the machine, especially when it's in handheld mode, so much that I'm contemplating leaving it docked. I'm having palpitations about applying the screensaver that I've bought too (whether I'll do it correctly or not) I have a protective case that can apparently be put in the dock so that should help some. So am I overreacting, will Switch 2 be able to cope with all I could possibly throw at it.
@Uncle_Franklin Considering there is a Fan in there it better be for the 4k cooling it needs. Did any of the poster here watch those people whom went to Nintendo Live events watch what those said about it? Not the console warriors but those with a open mind about what Switch 2 was about.
@Dhaladog If you're concerned about damaging a switch because of posts & pics you see in reddit... virtually every picture of a joycon broken off the rail, or any other damage I've seen, it seems to be mostly kids, probably doing things you would never do with a handheld game console, or tablet/smartphone device, because you know better.
I had a switch for 8 years (first a launch switch, then an OLED) and never damaged it or the joycons. (my first joycons did get drift, though, replaced those). So, I wouldn't put much weight in the damage pics you may find online. If you buy a switch, and have the sense not to play frisbee with a high tech smartphone/tablet, I think you'll be ok. 😉
Side note: You can buy tempered glass screen protectors that come with an alignment tool. I'm getting one for switch 2, just to make things easier.
Sadly, the Nintendo Switch 2 still uses the same type of JoyCon sensors, so JoyCon drift might still be an issue. Nintendo could permanently fix it with Hall effect-sensors, which rely on magnets to detect movement and position of the joysticks, for MUCH better precision and maximum durability, but Nintendo said no.
And remember more than 80% of Nintendo Switch 1 JoyCons with JoyCon drift stopped working after less than 2 years. If Nintendo does this to sell more JoyCons, I don't know, but Nintendo refusing to permanently fix JoyCon drift, despite so many chances, says a lot about their attitude against their customers and fans.
@Serah You know he was PR talking not a normal conversation people would have. They most likely have something similar to Hall Effect without saying it. He will never tell what we want to know in that interview no one ever does that. Drift happens even on xbox, ps controllers so this doom and gloom it's only Nintendo is just a falsehood people like to sleep with. Mine just started this year and replaced them with HallEffect joy-con stick and now back to gaming.
If anything the Switch 2 will be more durable than the Switch 1. The rail system on the Switch 1 was not great. Over time the joy-con lost their seating, slid upwards on the rails enough to lose connection and "detach" from the tablet even though they were still technically...attached. But with the magnet system on the Switch 2, there'll be nowhere for the joy-con to slide to.
