Over having to purchase a second joy-con. I'm so accustomed to using the Hori Split Pad Pro for the past four plus years, I only just realized. No d-pad...again. Same old Nintendo. Forcing customers to pay $40+ for a d-pad.
@Mothertroid
As long as they're wireless Joy-Cons, perhaps, and maybe restricted to Switch 1 software.
The D-Pad Joy-Cons and Split-Pad Pro Joy-Cons however?
Wired only, so they're completely Switch 1 exclusive. They lack multiple features like NFC, motion, IR sensor, and wireless communications (also a battery).
Hah, I have that exact same d-pad joy-con in the video thumbnail. But yeah, it is lame to think I'll have to buy another such peripheral for the Switch 2. I just can't play 2d games without a real d-pad personally, those little buttons don't cut it. I'm wondering if you'll be able to use a Switch pro Controller for the Switch 2 though...don't see why not.
@Mothertroid
The way that the Joy-Con controllers attach to the Switch 1 and 2 are completely different.
Any compatibility is going to be limited to wireless communications.
Perhaps you can still use existing joy cons wireless only?
@RupeeClock I'm hoping they still allow our old joycons to sync up with Switch 2 for docked play although the 'some games won't be back-compatible' comment makes me wonder.
@Magician I have 3 sets of joycons and a pro controller. I'm not annoyed about needing 1 new combined set of joycon 2s but I'm a little worried we will need to buy a ton of new controllers for multiplayer/party games. As for d-pad ... the fake one on the joycons is better than the jank one on pro-controller. I'm really interested to see the new pro controller though.
I just picked up the D-Pad controller, but the Zelda version. It was a price I could not walk away from. LOL.
I highly suspected that it wouldn't work with Switch 2, but my main purpose in picking it up is for when my kids finally stop hogging the OG Switch. (Either when we get a Switch 2, or I finally pick-up a Switch Lite.)
When I finally get to spend some time on the OG Switch, I was going to finally dig into SNES on NSO.
So I'm not upset at all, because its all part of my plan.

RE: New Controllers . . .
I do hope that the Switch 2 can work with OG Joy-cons, and 3rd-party Switch controllers. That could help the purchase of a Switch 2 be less daunting.
When we got the OG Switch . . . I held off getting additional Joy-cons. Luckily the 3rd-party Wii-U Game cube adapter we had worked with the OG Switch at the beginning. (Doesn't now. ). That let us play Mario Kart as a family while I slowly got a couple more pairs of Joy-cons.
