Nintendo Switch 2 is almost here, check out our guide: Nintendo Switch 2 Guide: Ultimate Resource.

I just tried Hello Kitty: Island Adventure and it is simply better in every respect playing on Switch 2. It didn't even get a Switch 2 update but performance, graphics and loading times are all significantly better.

@FishyS
Oh, thanks.
And about Hello Kitty Island Adventure, still 30 fps even on Switch 2?

I only play kids games with a few rated Teen games that suitable for me.

xenobladexfan

Nihon Falcom games are hit and miss, mostly to do with the quality of the port:
Trails from Zero and Azure look visually upgraded; Daybreak 1 looks good too but Daybreak 2 is visually downgraded in every aspect;

Ys: 8 looks better on the new hardware.

Overall it would be better for third parties to make newer releases have NS2 versions just so the games don't look visually worse.

Xeno series = max hype.

Datasun_7

I haven't tested many Switch games yet but I did test my physical copy of Bakeru on it and it ran like a dream 60fps no dips, can't say I was too bothered with how it looked on the 1080p display either

Will test Pacman World Repac at some point too because that also had an unlocked framerate

A Switch 1 game that ran at 30fps is not going to suddenly jump to 60fps on S2 without a patch. Games that experienced frame rate drops will run more smoothly though.

Artonide

Rocket league is smooth and playable now. Graphics also better. 😊
But hope it gets a solid update soon to Max it potential.

Harvest Moon Winds of Anthos looks pretty smooth. It still has the little hiccups when the game loads new areas though. But it definitely gets a boost from the new hardware.

The forum is a place called Grcade, it's gone private recently, but I've been on there years, I'll port the list/entire post below.

Ok so I have come across a few reddits and other things where people have tried to put together lists of Switch games and how they run on the Switch 2.

If you’ve tested a game, drop a comment with how it ran and I'll add and credit you. To start the ball rolling I've grabbed some observations from other people's lists to get the ball rolling. Also if you think you could do a better job doing this I'd be happy to hand over the reigns on this thread, just thought it might be a good idea.

I have also posted a thread like this on Grcade and I am in contact with people there who are feeding me there input on this list so I will be updating this list both here and there with info provided by both Forums.

As I expected, backwards compatibility can only be improved/fixed with the help of millions of Switch 2 owners, thoroughly testing all the games in their libraries.
As for the Nintendo games that are facing some issues, I am 100% sure that all of them will be fixed. My fear is that some developers won't bother to fix their games with updates, and I don't know if Nintendo could do it alone.

Rodolfo6493

@FishyS I went and edited my original post like you requested!

I also want to say that as someone who’s had my own Switch 2 now for a couple of days, I haven’t experienced any noticeable issues in any of the games I tested (which is mostly JRPGs as they are my favorite genre.) Games like, for example, Atelier Yumia, which on the Switch 1 had constant hitches and stutters to the point the game would CONSTANTLY stutter and even entirely freeze for like half a second or so every time you collect a material…in a game all about collecting materials. It was certainly playable just very unpleasant. I’ve spent 5 hours with the game on Switch 2 and even though the game hasn’t received any sort of Switch 2 improvement update or anything, it runs at a COMPLETELY stable 30 fps with no noticeable drops to speak of, at least that I can notice with my naked eye. Loading times are also significantly shorter, especially the large initial loading screen after you boot the game up. It is so much better it’s comical. I only wish I had waited for the Switch 2 to come out before playing it as I played all the way until the final area on the painful Switch 1 port. It would have been so nice for the game to run like this the whole time!

That’s the one thing I’ve noticed with the Switch 2 more than anything: Looking back, I just can’t imagine how I suffered through playing games that are constantly stuttering and so ugly to look at on the Switch 1 for so many years. This is obviously an exaggeration, but it feels like I’m finally free from a prison I didn’t even realize I was trapped in.

[Edited by horizonisland]

Hobbies include eating, sleeping, playing video games, petting cats, and…actually that’s about it. :/

Eel

I played fitness boxing 3 using the old joycon so I don’t sweat up the new ones, and discovered something strange… they don’t do the rumble!

And yes rumble is turned on. I don’t know if it’s a joycon compatibility issue, or the game itself.

The game plays perfectly otherwise though.

As long as no one minds I'll look at updating the list to include stuff from the people here, and update it both here and on Grcade, might not be super quick doing this as I work weird hours and also do TikYok and stuff... I'm glad people like it

This is incorrect information. Dead Cells on Switch 1 targets 60 FPS, though it sometimes drops frames, and it includes an optional locked 30 FPS mode which you can turn on for better performance. I tested the game yesterday on the Switch 2, and it seems to reach the 60 FPS target consistently now. I didn't notice any poor texture quality either, at least not in handheld mode.

As for No Man's Sky, it did indeed get a free Switch 2 upgrade with dramatic improvements in resolution, texture quality, FPS, etc. It now has two FPS modes, one that's capped at 30 FPS and one that's uncapped. I checked some Youtube videos where people test these modes, and the capped mode seems to run consistently at 30 FPS, whereas the uncapped mode seems to fluctuate roughly between 40 FPS and 60 FPS depending on which environment of the game you're in.

@LuigiTheGreenFire I assume it will be the same as the other Xenoblade games.

I have XC 1, 2 and 3 and tested all three of them. Especially XC3 seems to be resolution and FPS locked and will need a patch for improved resolution and frame rates.
Both XC1 and 2 looked ok, but XC3 looked blurry like hell, just like on Switch 1.

Do you mean that the resolution on XC1 has improved without an update, if it looks okay on Switch 2 but XC3 doesn't? Because IIRC they both have the same resolution on Switch 1 (720p docked, 540p handheld).

@kerr9000
I know nobody here will care that much about Switch Sports but it is one of the best selling Switch titles. The fact that it supposedly has BC issues makes me think that a Switch 2 Edition or upgrade of some kind is probable. Seems like a good candidate for GameShare and could also be a good excuse to expand the range of sports

Jeronan

@Polvasti Yes both XC1 and XC2 look reasonably sharp on the Switch 2, while XC3 looks the worst.
