I thought it was worth having a GTA thread, what are the chances of GTA 5 and GTA 6 ending up on the Switch?
GTA 5 strikes me as a Mario Kart 8 type scenario, a great game that is fully complete and just needs to be ported, sounds like an easy win? Maybe even something to test the water with regard to GTA 6?
I suppose we'll need to know more about the Switch 2 hardware before a judgement can be made on if GTA 6 will make it, but if the Switch 2 sells anywhere near what the Switch 1 sold then surely Rockstar would be interested?
It's not something I particularly want to play myself but I'm amazed GTA5 still isn't on Switch. It's one of the best selling games of all time and was originally released on hardware weaker than the Switch - as you say, it seems like an open goal.
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
I don’t see GTA V coming to Switch 2. Makes little sense for Rockstar as they are putting all their teams into GTA VI for this year, assuming it still comes this year. Also I’m not sure how successful it would be because again, everyone is waiting for GTA VI.
GTA VI I don’t think will ever happen either as if the Switch 2 is only a PS4/PS4 Pro in terms of power, there’s no way GTA VI will run on it. It’s important to remember that online is where the money is made and so Switch 2 will need to be capable of running the game online while able to support all the regular updates over the years.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't put GTA 5 on Switch 2. I'm not convinced GTA 6 will ever be as popular as GTA 5 was and I'm sure many people will continue playing GTA 5.
As for GTA 6? Obviously it would have to be a downgraded version. It wouldn't surprise me if it didn't come to Switch 2, but since GTA 6 is even less out than Switch 2 it's hard to guess with confidence.
I just don’t see any GTA coming to Switch 2 unless it’s a remaster that is also coming to other platforms. Everything Rockstar has released on the Switch was because they were also remastering the game(s) for other systems.

Even a port of IV would be incredible at this point but given Take Two/Rockstar didn't even feel the need to port this to PS4 or PS5, this likelihood is also incredibly remote, unless it somehow gets a remaster in a few years.
My guess is that they decided rereleasing IV on those consoles at a time when V was doing so well would just be an unnecessary distraction and potentially damage sales. A real shame because the physics engine, atmosphere and attention to detail within Liberty City had some uniquely captivating elements, it was definitely some of their best work, even outshining V in some respects.
On top of this, I really don't think Rockstar believe Nintendo fits in with their cutting edge brand particularly well. They certainly see themselves as one of the 'cool kids' and probably believe porting to Switch 2 could only damage their carefully curated image, which as of now, has been 25 years in the making. Definitive Edition was an obvious exception because of the trilogy's age and the fact they'd been ported to everything under the sun by the time of their release in 2021.
Very unlikely. I mean, it could be done if Rockstar wanted it, but their latest statements sound a bit arrogant really, in the sense that their game is like nothing else in the industry and they can do whatever they want.
You see, any game ported to Switch 2 will need to be scaled down. If all you have is strong visuals and world simulation, scaling down exposes your poor gameplay even further. Not saying GTA has poor gameplay, by the way, but I do believe the series peaked in GTA 4 in gameplay (missions were great and diverse).
Honestly, I want to play GTA V, I have it, but I'd REALLY rather to play it on my Switch 2 in bed, rather than at my desk on my PC. GTA VI, maybe with some scaling back they can do it.
Lots of people like to claim that, because the Switch 2 is more comparable to a PS4 when undocked, that there's no chance it can support GTA VI since it's not supported on PS4. But the two systems are very far apart in age, and I'm certain that, even with similar specs, the Switch 2 probably has changed things around that would make it run better than it did inside a PS4, if that makes sense.
I mean, Nintendo has an amazing history of making, what seems very demanding games, work on their less powerful console, I'm sure it could work for the Switch 2.
@FishyS Looks like it was around the 60-65% range in a different bet right before the delay was announced. But it was as high as the mid-70s in October, so pretty similar to the current odds.
