Hi everyone! First attempt at playing MK World online in bed and I couldn’t connect, but everything seemed fine in other devices. As I investigated the router settings to confirm, I realized Switch 2 connected to 2.4GHz for some reason. I then attempted to force it to use only 5GHz via router settings and, to my surprise, it simply fails to connect to the Wi-Fi. This is a major issue since 5GHz gives me a significant better connection in my apartment.
My router has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wi-fi, and the Switch 2 has no problems connecting to the 5 GHz wi-fi, so it's not an universal issue at least. I didn't change the wi-fi settings in the console in any way before connecting to the 5 GHz wi-fi, it was able to do that right out of the box.
I don't think this is a Switch 2 thing, WiFi roaming is just generally pretty temperamental. Sometimes it's the access point, sometimes it's the device, sometimes it's a combination. Sometimes it's just interference or the layout of your house
Kinda hard to give suggestions without actually being there in person. Maybe check to see if your neighbours are using the same 5Ghz radio. Or see if it connects to 5Ghz next to the router/access point when you turn wifi off and on

I had the same issue on the second day. It just dropped the WiFi connection to my 5GHz SSID and refused to reconnect. Rebooted the system and manually reconnected it. No problem since.
I also had this issue, then switched to 2.4 connection and it worked fine. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one having the 5g problem though, is a bit weird but no big deal.
1, SSID1 (Not the name I've used) settings: Hidden SSID, 5GHz only, static IP for gaming devices firewall rules for DMZ, and its own IP table with self hosted DNS server, this applies to all of my SSID's.
2, SSID2 2.4 only for IoT devices.
3, SSID3 2.4/5 for CCTV network.
4, SSID4 2.4/5 for temporary guest keys.
All of these are on a VLAN setup, at home you most likely won't need that but it is a good idea to create separate SSID's with different complex passwords ( I hide some of mine so it doesn't get messy ) that way you can use traffic from one SSID for gaming and the rest for other devices that are not 5 compatible. it also adds a small layer of security for you especially as you'll be DMZ the IP addresses with the gaming devices attached.

Thanks for the replies! The router is updated and works flawlessly for all the other devices I have, pretty sure this is a Switch 2 thing. But perhaps some kind of reset/reboot as suggested could do the trick.
Mine seems to be a unit from China, maybe the network tech is slightly different between models?
My mother has a vodafone router and she struggles to get a reliable connection with her Chromebook on 5Ghz but unfortunately there is no option to use a slower wifi on the chromebook and vodafone have disabled options in the firmware to create a slower wifi access point probably for security reasons. She used to have an issue with a smart TV but that seems to have been updated to solve the wifi issue. However the issue remains with the chromebook. She has no issues with other devices that connect automatically at a slower wifi speed. I suspect given time Nintendo will improve the wifi functionality for wider compatibility. My phone has no problem connecting to my mother's wifi at full speed and nor does her own phone. I've used my Doogee T30 Pro tablet on it too without issue at full speed. It's possible Switch 2 uses more than one wifi chip internally depending on where and time of manufacture. The critical component list for certification may allow for perhaps up to 4 different wifi chips and of those some maybe better than others.
Problem: I noted Switch 2 would change to 2.4Ghz probably because the range/signal strength was better but I did not want to have slower downloads and performance. Switch 2 was having a hard time to find+connnect 5GHz after.
I think I fixed my problem by doing the following:
Separate 2.4Ghz band to IoT/older devices
5 and 6Ghz to main/faster devices. I changed the channel to 48-52 to be more compatible with Switch 2 and used WiFi Analyzer android App to find best signal channel to not conflict with neighbours network.
Forget/cleared 2.4GHz network SSID from Switch 2 to prevent it from shifting band. 5GHz now has been stable and great!
Note: I have a WiFi 7 router + mesh to expand network, but Switch 2 is still compatible with it and WPA3 authentication.
