That says software it never indicate physical cart games? Where did he say physical cart games can be used in the successor?? Software and Physical cart games are two different animals here. How hard was it to say software and physical cart can be played on the successor???? We have to be clear and concise about the semantic here.
Clearly wrong either they say Physical cart can be used in Switch 2 or not. Just saying software can be used in Switch 2 tells nothing and is what expected of a PR response.
Software refers to both physically and digitally, so of course physical Switch games are gonna work on Switch 2.

They why don't he just say Physical and Digital? Software so vague that could mean anything just Digital Only. This is all PR to avoid just stating clearly Physical and Digital software. There two words that seems to be at a loss for Nintendo President to just say without ambiguity.
@SwitchForce Nintendo said that people can continue to enjoy the games they have already purchased on the new console. That seems very clear to me. No digital or physical, just all purchased games.

Just stop if you don't care about other opinions. If it could mean anything it can be physical as well. I think Nintendo's communication was really clear. Your message with bold text isn't.
With this, and the fact that Switch 2 may reuse the same base OS as the Switch, it leaves us wondering with how Switch 2 cartridges will look like
Like if they’ll reuse the same shell but find a way to make sure it doesn’t play on an original Switch or add a notch like with 3DS cartridges
They probably would add a notch. But would it break something? A message when booting the game that says it doesn't work on Switch hardware is also possible.

There’s also making Switch 2 cartridges the same shape but different pins which can help the Switch 2 cartridge slot identify if it’s a Switch 2 game or a Switch game. Then if a Switch 2 cartridge is inserted onto an original Switch, it could probably say something like when a New 3DS cartridge is put into an original 3DS (the way it’s written is based on the North American version, so it may differ from how it’s said in Europe and Australia): This is New Nintendo 3DS software. It cannot be used on this system.
I’m thinking something like this: This Game Card cannot be used on a Nintendo Switch system. Insert this Game Card on a (whatever the Switch 2 is called) system to play it.
@Matt_Barber I was wondering about this. My assumption is that games like Arkham Knight might be playable on Switch 2 without a patch because the issue is huge frame rate drops and the Switch processor just not powerful enough for that game. Ditto Mario/Luigi Brothership. On the other hand, Hogwarts will play the same (less resolution, not truly open world with multiple load screens-although I would expect it to load faster) unless a patch or update is released. As a WiiU owner, I was not happy having to not only repurchase BOTW, but to start over. Would it have been that hard to transfer game progress to a new system? Given that, I doubt Nintendo will offer free upgrades. They will likely tell us to double dip. If they are generous, they may offer a paid DLC upgrade.
@raymond23 Transferring saves from the Wii U to the Switch wasn't ever likely to be much of a thing because the hardware is so different that games had to be rebuilt at a relatively low level and changes to the save file format were inevitable.
As it happens, there is a save file converter for Breath of the Wild that you can use to transfer them between modified consoles. However, that's just one game that's been mined extensively and is very well understood. It'd be nigh impossible to do it with most other games, unless the developers had gone out of their way to support it and, without backwards compatibility, they weren't going to.
With the Switch 2 there's at least an opportunity to do things better. You can finally have the same version of the game running on both machines and that is going to make the file format problem a non-issue. Being able to carry save data for compatible games over with NSO accounts will save you having to physically transfer the data via SD card too, although maybe that'll also be an option for incompatible ones.
Again, other consoles managed this pretty much seamlessly several years ago. I don't want to be placing too much faith in Nintendo, but this ought to be an easy hurdle for them to clear.
