As the title says, I’ve been experiencing some infrequent Joycon disconnects while playing in handheld. These seem to only occur when the Joycon is shook or tapped a certain way, and rarely happens during gameplay, yet it still does happen during gameplay sometimes.

It’s strange, it doesn’t show the disconnect animation as if you pulled it out of the console, and you can instantly reconnect as soon as the controller prompt pops up, so it’s almost like a loss of connection for a very very short time that still triggers the controller popup.

I thought that maybe, somehow, the inside slot for the joycons was pressing against the SYNC button and turning the controller off, but the button has a decent bit of resistance to it, so I can’t see that happening.

I also can’t really find anything about this online, search results just pertain to switch 1 joycon disconnects. This happens on both my joycons, so best case scenario the software just needs to be updated to not show a controller prompt if a controller disconnects and immediately reconnects, or worst case scenario both of my joycons have issues. What I’d love to know is, is this happening to anybody else? I know atleast one other person this happens to but again, there’s pretty much nothing about this online that I can find.

@squisan I think the problem can be a result of dropping the console or joycons, or a defect. I think most posts I see reporting the problem tend to be young people, or kids, that are less careful with electronic devices. Forgive my generalizing, but that's what I've seen. You may need to have the console looked at for diagnosis. If anyone knows otherwise, feel free to contribute.

@WoomyNNYes It happens on both joycons, and I’ve only dropped the right one at a very short distance. Have never dropped the console. It happening on both joycons leads me to believe (or maybe just holding onto whatever hope i have) that it’s either a software issue, or I just somehow got unlucky on both joycons/both ports on the console

This happens to me all the time in handheld mode. It especially happens during moments of high intensity gameplay like fighting a boss in silksong with a lot of things happening on screen. I have no idea why what is happening on screen would affect the joycon but it seems to be correlated somehow. It also happens randomly in other games. Not sure what I can do about it. If I disconnect the controllers from the console, they work perfectly wireless. it only happens when they are attached mechanically.

That’s pretty weird. I would get that checked.

@blonky19 just came here to say I've been having the same experience when it comes to Silksong. Been enjoying the game for weeks, but only just now tried playing in handheld. It's strange as I played a lot of DK Bananza in handheld without this issue. And in that game, I was pretty button mashy as well. Only started having this issue today, and only in this game. Strange...

@P-Chao I have had this once or twice in Silksong too..... although maybe not that worrying since my playtime is around 60 hours, and only 2 occasions IIRC.

Any word on HORI cooking up Split Pad Pro and/or Split Pad Compact (my preferred) for Switch2?

This is happening to my Switch 2 as well. I do have young kids that can be rough with it during gameplay, but we are generally very careful with it. It’s only the left joy con 2 that will do this. But it does it FREQUENTLY. Like I cannot get through a single lap of a track in Mario Kart without it disconnecting multiple times. I don’t even know how to get it checked out to be fixed since it’s such new tech.

I half wanna believe it's a software issue rather than the Joy-Cons themselves. This happens to me a lot, but exclusively when I play Smash. I have not had it happen while playing anything else, including high strain stuff. Although I saw someone say to clean the connection points with 90% alcohol, so I'll try that and report back if it works.

This happens to me when I’m playing Fortnite with my son, I’m rubbish so tend to get panicked and I think a sudden movement might cause it….

Not once, actually. Had it since launch. Much more sturdy than Switch 1!

Haven”t had a single issue with my Switch 2 and i have had it since day one. It’s such a shame and a bit sad that some users have had different troubles with theirs. I hope these issues will get resolved, one way or another.

I know you mentioned updates but when you download a system update the controllers do not update automatically, you need to go into the settings and update all of the controllers from the S2 menu, have you attempted this since the last update that came down? As that update contained a Pro controller update and joy con 2 update.

It does happen sometimes. But I think it’s more likely an OS than a hardware problem. It seems to happen more for Switch 1 games than Switch 2.
