Couldn't find a topic on Pokemon Go, so here we go.
I am excited by the news that came out today. My Wife and I are already planing on both getting the Plus devices. I hope this can be fun just around the neighborhood, and sometimes require nothing more than 30mins to a hour of travel. I live near LA, so I will probably be fine there lol.

I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Like I said, it's just a dumbed down version of the main games. Don't even think there's any real battling, and it said in order to evolve Pokemon...is to catch more of the same Pokemon. o_0

Keep it PG-13-ish.

Seems like a different experience to me, not just a dumbed down version. But to each their own.

This is a mess. The core of Pokemon is battling other trainers, making new friends with your animal companions, and training them to be their best.
In Pokemon GO!:
-You can't train your Pokemon
-You can only evolve them by catching duplicates, which essentially makes the first one you caught seem less special in hindsight.
-You're catching several duplicates that you probably won't do anything with, which spits over the philosophy of the friend and bonding aspect of Pokemon.
-You obviously can't battle because your Pokemon won't be able to level up and evolve like they should be able to do.
-There's literally no reason to catch Pokemon if you have to catch others of their kind to evolve them, and you can't battle so they just sit around.
How can you mess it up this bad? Is it so hard to implement a battling/leveling system like the games have? We're talking about just having Pokemon, moves, and leveling/evolution. That's nothing compared to making a whole region with characters and story. It really should just be child's play in comparison to what Gamefreak does, Niantic.
But this isn't a main Pokemon game. This is a spin-off. Also, a big part of Pokemon for me is finding and catching Pokemon. This is a different experience and a spin-off, just like Mystery Dungeon, Ranger, Shuffle, Rumble, and Snap.

I haven't played a Pokemon game since the first generation, but when I get my phone upgraded in November, I might jump in on this. Like @DefHalan is saying, it's a different experience — obviously not meant to replace the core Pokemon games at all. And for that, it looks novel.
This might sound bad, but I think whether or not it supports My Nintendo rewards will be my jumping off point. I can already see these being Nintendo's uber-addicting version of Microsoft's Achievements or Sony's Trophies, only they get you games and discounts. It's already tempting me to dive into Miitomo, and the same goes for Go. I'm gonna be knee deep in that My Nintendo business.
I think that this had a lot of potential, but isn't going to go anywhere near that potential. The Pokewalker worked better as a concept. You can "battle" and catch wild Pokemon that you can "look for" while you're walking, not with in-depth mechanics, but in a way that still makes you feel involved. During the time you spend together the Pokemon you brought with you in your Pokewalker can level up and grow a bond with you. I think that Pokemon GO should have been like that. After catching your first Pokemon, you should have been able to find wild encounters in the "real world", battle them and catch them, and even "battle" with other people using a fight/evade system rather than actual moves, while walking and the time you spend with your Pokemon would raise its "level".
It's not reported by NintendoLife due to NL's extreme hatred of anything and everything Australian. But the few Australians here would be interested in this.
