I don't know when this started (or who was responsible for starting it) but today (March 10th) is somewhat officially Mario Day. It's apparently because Mar10 looks a lot like, well Mario. Companies seem to be getting involved. For example Google have put a Mario Kart mode in Google Maps (link below).
