Anyone else think that this is just astonishing, I remember when it originally launched and it was nothing like this, the guy is a magician, some serious work here, I hope it sells well.
I played the original doom on super nintendo back in the day after playing it originally on my PC and it was terrible. There was some of the great gameplay of the game there but it wasn't the full fat experience. I seem to remember all monsters always faced you as there was limited space for having rotating sprites and I guess the game logic was they always knew you were there because they were always facing you. It meant a more simplistic game compared to other formats. It was one of those games were you were amazed it was running on super nintendo but started to realise it was quite limited especially with the choppy frame rate. I actually preferred Wolfenstein 3D on super nintendo for playability. It just worked as expected even without a support chip but of course was a far less ambitious game but you got the full game experience with it I seem to remember. I don't remember any issues with the game and even the frame rate I remember being good or maybe that is rose tinted glasses and not really remembering what it was really like.
This is a seriously awesome deal. It's not just the framerate that's increased, they've also cleaned up gameplay elements to make sure the entire layout is more dimensionally calibrated. If you ask me the problem with the slime pool damage has been almost completely remediated by the programmatic features calculating slope against the SNES's software renderer, if you try to open source that kind of code it gets sloppy real quick.
I remember playing at a friend's house when I was a child, I had never seen anything like it before.The problem was that it made me terribly dizzy. I know I'm not the only one it happened to, and it kept happening to me with other games later on. But not with all shooters, for example I had no problem with Wolfenstein, mentioned above.
I hope that this upgrade solves the problem, because at least in my case it ruined the experience with Doom completely.
