Topic: Buying new switch, gifting old one, but complicated?

I have a switch lite, but may be upgrading to a full sized switch in the near future. If I gift my lite to my sister, would she still be able to play games I have purchased + downloaded if my account was still on the lite?

My main concern is animal crossing, as I have the digital copy, along with the DLC. I don't mind restarting my island, but if I wipe the save on the lite so she could start her own island, would I still be able to play as well on the new switch? Additionally, would we able to play at the same time as well? (along with other games as well. in the chance we decide to play miitopia at the same time for example)

if this has been asked and answered before, please tag me in the right direction.

Thanks much!

The games are tied to your account.

You could leave your account accessible on the gifted switch, as a secondary switch, and she would be able to play them using your profile, but you wouldn’t be able to play together due to restrictions to the amount of people that can play digital content on the same profile at the same time.

(The primary console has unlimited access to them, but secondary consoles can only play them after an online check to make sure your account is not being used on another switch at the same time)

@goblynnexo : Short answer, no. As long as Nintendo detects that you are online, any games accessed on a secondary console will not be playable. In order to play games together, you will both need your own copies.

You can also transfer your Animal Crossing save data (island and all) to your new Switch, which will of course wipe the data from the Switch Lite, so, your sister will have to start from scratch, but you can continue exactly from where you left off on your new console.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

Thank you for your replies!

I was hoping that wasn't the case, but it does makes sense they would do that with downloaded content. It gives me an idea of where to go from here though, haha :')
