Just as a fat rump, a beer gut has nothing to to with age (granted you have passed puberty) - it's all up to what you do with your body. What you eat and how you exercise. But anyway:
There are lots of Resident Evil fans complaining that Chris Redfield has gone from a relatively slim guy to a pumped up American macho man. People DO care about this stuff. Maybe you're just afraid of talking about a woman's body...?

They got away with Toon Link, some people didn't like it but they got away with it. They have changed normal Link too. He does look different in Skywad Sword than he does Twilight Princess, quite different really.
P.S. People would explode if they have gave Samus a beer gut, I recommend using an example that wouldn't get people up in arms about Samus too.

That's a good point. But as you said, some people didn't like Toon Link and some STILL don't like him. When Miyamoto showed off Wind Waker, the crowd was silent instead of giving him a warm applause. Characters' looks matters. A LOT.
And even to this day, Nintendo have a hard time deciding what kind of art style to use Zelda games, right? And they also have a hard time settling on Link's looks. They know the fans are split when it comes to this.

Depends on whose butt we're talking about. i've seen some round, plump tushies firm enough to bounce a quarter off'a — not a drop of fat in 'em. Samus may be the victim of bad lighting in that suit, but do I think her butt looks flabby and fat? No. Just normal.
