Well, with story and element, and beauty It's definitely Zelda.

Don't get me wrong, Mario is beautiful as well, but visually, Zelda is the greatest.

I don't really find them easy to compare, really. They are 2 whole different types of things.

I haven't played Zelda much yet, so I am going to have to get more games of LoZ. Hopefully picking up a 3DS soon so I can buy Ocarina of Time for it. What do you think of OoT? What would you rate it?

@SamuraiShyGuy I am definitely picking up OoT whenever I purchase my 3DS.

I absolutely hate Ocarina of Time, but it's definitely the most accessible game for newcomers to the series.

It's my favorite game of all time. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I agree with ryanthehedgehog (what's with all the hedgehogs?) that these games aren't really comparable. Overall though, Zelda is my favorite series, with Mario not too far behind.

@rift, Is it safe to assume you love Call of Duty?

I'm not a big fan of it either. I wouldn't go as far as to say I hated it but never understood why it was consider the best Zelda game ever by so many. It's not a bad game by any means I just don't think it's great.

No, I just don't like the way Ocarina of Time abandons the basic principles that the series was built on. It's a good starting point for someone who's never played a Zelda game, though.

What does that have to do with any thing?

It stays very close to the blueprint given by ALttP. Of course it adds a lot of stuff and revolutionized what a game could be, but who wants the same game over and over.

I agree, it was very revolutionary:

• It had a Super Mario 64-style hub instead of an overworld
• It had a scripted, story-driven adventure instead of non-linear exploration
• It had "Boss Puzzles" instead of "Boss Battles"

Anyone who played the N64 original and then bought the 3DS port.

@rift, It has an overworld, and a great one at that. As for your other points, that just depends on what kind of game you like. If you make a game where you can play it in any order then you can say bye bye to a good story. Plus the difficulty will be weird. You either have to make every dungeon easy or make the dungeons gradually get harder. In the latter case, you will still need to beat the easier dungeons first.
