Topic: Wouldn't no net neutrality work in reverse in Europe?

There's lots of ISPs competing for costumers. If we didn't have net neutrality, then it makes more sense if ISPs have to pay to have access to for example Youtube.

Imagine you are one of many ISPs competing for costumers and Google just cuts of access to Youtube for you. Then you will be the ISP that doesn't have Youtube, while your competitors have paid Google and do have access to it.

ISPs get vilified on the internet because of how it works in the United States, with only two major ISPs. Here in Europe ISPs are mostly the good guys. They have to be, since all they are providing is data transfer, which anyone can do, so they are 100 % replaceable.

Portugal displays that it is still bad to not have it in Europe. Portugal was the model to show what could happen to the USA.

@RancidVomit86 Portugal, being part of the European Union, has net neutrality. Not sure what you're talking about...

@Octane He's referring to that image of Portugal's "net service" that was actually a mobile service.

@Octane It's part of the European Union and has it but it also doesn't thanks to loop holes in laws of Portugal. That's why cellular providers there, like MEO for example, can create data plans where you have to pay extra to access certain apps.

EDIT: Simple fact is companies are in business to make and boost profits. Executives will do whatever it takes to make that happen. They are not doing anything for our best interest. They are only going to do whatever maximizes profits. It's a sad reality but it is reality. That is why we have to put laws in place to protect the consumer and why there has to be government oversight.

I work for an ISP and you guys don't realize how much this idea of "Joe Blow only uses 75 gigs a month and Jane Doe uses 400 gigs a month so she is more taxing on our network" is a scam. Sure there's peak hours where the network is more heavily used and that is taxing on the network but who is using what amount doesn't affect us. We are pushing such mass amount of data cap free bandwidth that it would blow your mind.

I guess when you get in and see how things operate it gives you a different perspective.

So, we will have to agree to disagree.
