Topic: Why do you guys play Games?

Saw this Video earlier today and started thinking about the reason why I play Video Games. Then I thought about the Experience and Whimsy that games bring to me. Thinking about the last Level in Super Mario 3D land and how difficult i found it, but it amazed me how enjoyable it was at the same time. Then Finally seeing the adorable ending got me. Contrast that too a Game like series like Final Fantasy or Indigo Prophecy which are far more narrative based and and capture my attention by wanting to resolve the the plot.

But most importantly games are a universal language and can be powerful audiovisual experiences as their is something for everyone. From Saving the princess in Zelda, launching Birds in space, going commando in call of duty, or just kicking back in chair and push a raindrop around in quell. I like games because they all tell stories in different ways and can be experienced and enjoyed by anyone and everyone.

SO why do you guys like Video Games?

I want to answer but your capitalization is so weird.

Cuz they are fun.

Because they are interactive entertainment of awesome and I've played games all my life.

Because they allow me to explore a world that's actually interesting, and feel like I'm accomplishing things even though I'm not actually putting real effort into them.

Also, I feel like a question like this shouldn't be too hard to answer, but the responses in this thread seem to be proving me wrong.

For me it was a progression. As a very young child, my dad would read King Arthur tales to me. That got me hooked on fantasy. Then I discovered board games, and through that I saw a copy of a game that my parents owned called Dungeons and Dragons. I fell in love with interactive storytelling. So then I got into games, and RPGs were a great way to play "dungeons and dragons" by myself.

And that is why I couldn't care less about difficult games, pixel perfect platforming and all that. I got into games for the experience, not the challenge.

Has it ever occured to any of you to ask yourself why it's fun? That's pretty much what's being asked here.

Most of the time, I play video games simply for entertainment that I feel engaged in. Other times I play for a challenge. One other thing that appeals to me about video games is that they allow you to be able to do things that you either couldn't or wouldn't do in the real world. For instance, I enjoy playing Forza Motorsport 4 because it lets me drive my dream car (1969 Dodge Charger) in fun races, something that I can't do in real life because I can't afford a 1969 Dodge Charger, and even if I could afford it, I wouldn't risk messing it up in a race.

I play video games for entertainment, ideas and relaxtion. I think I release stress when I play...
I love films (mostly cartoons), and interaction. Video games has both!

.....Way too late for me to come up with a "smart" answer....so, I'll let someone else do that, lol

I play video games to play with friends that I can't usually play with. In my own way that's me being social plus I love challenges and doing stuff that is impossible to do in real life

I enjoy mindless repetitive tasks.

For the same reason i watch films or read books. Entertaiment.

Well, yeah, I guess till sounds like he could be more specific with even a little bit of effort , but it does answer the question (I think we can more or less deduce that "to pass time" or something like that).
