7 is best. People who say it's overrrated don't know what they're talking about. It has the best music and story, which revolves around the general theme of Life. I have played through 7, 8 and 9 several times and like them all very much, but if i had to put one above others, it would have to be 7.

Forgot to ask does it have long loading times? Im not sure if it would anyway on the psn version but I have to ask becuase ps1 games always do

I beg to differ 7 is not the best. The best is FF VI. Once they hit PS they stopped being fantasy and went too much sci fi. The PS ones are a disgrace to the series. If you want to try the series play the older ones you. Nothing can top the story of FF VI and nothing can top the villain Kefka.

I bought both FF 7 and 8 and ended up trading them in down the road I still have my copies of FF 1-6. If you want a good RPG on the PS try either Suikoden or Legend of Dragoon.

FF7. It's the best place to start as the later games seem to build off its gameplay. They're all very good games, though. Loading times are long on all the disc versions, but if you use the Home Options menu, you can reduce the load times for the PSN versions.

He's asking for a Final Fantasy game on the PSOne, though. 7, 8, and 9 to be precise.

They have Final Fantasy Origins on PSone which is FF1 and FF2 plus they have another FF collection with Final Fantasy 4.

They're not on PSN. He was quite specific.

True, but i wouldn't waste my bucks to those games since they're seriously dated- especially if you have started gaming with newer consoles.

actually, the thread title said 'ps1' though in his post he mentioned wanting it for psn, thus the confusion. i've edited the title, hopefully it'll clear things up.

just start with 7. if you don't like the way they went with it there, you probably won't like the others much either.

If you're new to RPGs, I'd suggest 9. It has a humorous story with a great introduction, a nice user interface, a good difficulty curve and respectable graphics even by today's standards.

If you're an RPG veteran I'd highly recommend 7. It was far ahead of its time, with an interesting battle/character system, solid plot themes and great storytelling. Also, overrated it is not - people just say that because of Cloud/Sephiroth fangirls, too many 9/10 and 10/10 reviews and the FF7 Compendium cash-in extravaganza (which changed things so radically that it's pretty much not the same universe as the original FF7).

7, 8, then 9. For no other reason than numerical order.

Definitely 7 or 9. I started with 9 and it was great introduction to the series (and really, I dont understand why it gets so much hate). 7 is one of my all-time favorites, so you should definitely try that too. It wont be overrated If you give it a change.

However, old Final Fantasies are definitely worth playing as well. People say FF games are about expansive plots, but gameplay has also very big part too, as every game has all kinds of different gameplay mechanics.

8 is....well, I personally dont recommend it. I really couldnt get into it, and this time the combat system felt clunky and seemed to require too much fiddling. I also felt like the plot needed some more explaining to do.

You already got a Sepiroth Avy, so something tells me you won't be disappointed with the characters.
