With the eighth generation of consoles getting ready to kick off sometime later this year, i thought it would be cool to delectable on this generation.
this gen say a big jump in digital, as well ss the rise of motion controls and HD games.
so what are your likes and dislikes about this gen. how do you compare it too others.
for me the two biggest highlights of this gen was first plating both wii sports and gears of war. both changed how i looked at games and what they could be too mw.
WAT!
Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.
This generation went all sorts of places. From focus on core gaming to focus on casual gaming and motion controls and everything in between, this gen was a pretty big game-changer. Besides your granny now being able to play games, the music industry hit video games, digital marketplaces exploded in popularity, and indie games with smaller budgets reached a resurgence.
Sure, some can say the quality of games went down, but it's going to be hard to beat the impact of this generation.
It's a very complex generation for sure. I enjoyed the way games have evolved from Motion gaming brought to you by the Wii and fresh and interesting experiences from games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. It's given that graphical horse power increases through each generation, and I fell in love with the prettyness invoked by the HD consoles. I find myself often running around exploring and taking in the sites from the virtual words provided.
Online provided more social aspects that almost everyone takes for granted nowadays. And the digital front brought forth the shops and media hubs that each console has in it's own way. Downloading old favorites is probably one of my favorite things of this generation. It saves hunting for old, discontinued games. That easy access is a blessing that I only want to see improved and supported for the generations to come. As mistakes are learned and promises are kept, I look forward to a greater variety of content in the future.
The way games are played this generation makes me excited for what hte future holds. How games are played is probably the most important thing, as everyone is always striving for new experiences. This generation takes the cake though, with motion and 3D blowing previous generations away. New risks and ideas have flourished which was great to see.
This was the most interactive and arguably overwhelming generation for sure.
Best generation since last generation. Can't say the Wii was better than the Gamecube; I have tons of memories from both of them, but Sunshine, Wind Waker, Prime, Melee, Monkey Ball, Paper Mario TTYD, etc. are the stuff classics are made of (plus I just started playing Hulk Ultimate Destruction and am about to start Star Fox Assault soon), and even other non-famous games like Star Wars Bounty Hunter, Bionicle Heroes, Cubix Robots for Everyone: Showdown, and even Donkey Konga made me happy to be a Nintendo fan.
This generation made an admirable attempt to beat it though, with the likes of Super Paper Mario, Galaxy 1 and 2, Brawl, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, NSMB Wii, Punch-Out!!, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Excitebots, Wii Sports Resort, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and yes, Metroid: Other M providing more quantity if not quality. Some third-party favorites, including BIT.TRIP COMPLETE, de Blob, Boom Blox, Zack and Wiki, Epic Mickey, Red Steel 2, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold rounded out a fantastic generation in Nintendo gaming.
"Uh, this is rubbish! Why can't I blow his head off?!" That is what I hear most of the time. I'm tempted to say back. "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"
With Wii and PS3 i can play almost every game i ever loved, via Virtual Console and PSN Store. I'll be able to buy or download every (non portable) game from the series like Zelda, Metal Gear, Metroid, Final Fantasy etc, and play a bunch of awesome new games like Demon's Souls and Xenoblade. So for me, this is easily the best generation ever.
It would be cool to have a delectable on this generation!
I am curious as to the impact of this generation in the larger picture of video game history. Compared to other entertainment media, video games are still pretty young, and I think this was a pivotal generation in establishing a new standard of innovation.
One of the best. Better than last generation that's for sure. Innovation with our controllers, better online capabilities overall, and perfection in almost every genre. Platforming, FPS, TPS, Party, RPG, etc.
Also downloadable games are worth mentioning over retail games. Games such as World of Goo, Fluidity, Fat Princess, Limbo, Ms. Splosion Man, Mega Man 9, and Toki Tori.
And Metal Gear Solid 4 came out this generation which wins every discussion known to man. Even political discussions.
Just for you. "I'm just a musical prostitute, my dear." - Freddie Mercury
I think gaming is getting too many unnecessary features. Like A Camera or HD, sure those things are nice but no one really NEEDS them. Although I can't really rant about it considering I own a few consoles that have unnecessary things.
Recently beaten game(s) : Super Mario 3D Land Currently Playing : The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D, Saving up for : Luigi's Mansion 2, Kingdom Hearts DDD 3D
With all the other generations, the games I played were picked out for me (by my dad in Genesis/Super Nintendo era and by my brother with the Dreamcast, PS2 and Gamecube, we completely skipped the Saturn, PS and 64) so it's a bit hard to compare, although I was fortunate enough to have a dad and brother that knows quality games. This is the generation where I got to choose my games and I love the library of games I've gotten to choose from. Plus, this is the first generation that promoted going back and playing retro games, so this is, in my eyes, the best generation because of the virtual console, XBLA, and PSN on top of the stellar line up of games, great innovations in gaming, and expansion of all genres.

HD is necessary when most people have HD Televisions.
Damn mist people. Who gave them our high-definition television technology?!

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
I found this to be the least interesting generation I've ever been a part of. There were lots of great gamers, don't get me wrong, but most of the RPGs were on Handhelds and none of the console RPGs stood out for me. Old favorites like Armored Core and Ace Combat have turned to crap while some series are completely MIA, like Jak & Daxter. I can't say any new Console series has left a big impact on me except for Dark Souls and Crackdown.
The Wii has been the most disappointing game console I've ever owned - while most of the games I own for it are decent, hardly any of them wowed me, unlike the Gamecube where damn near every game I owned wowwed me. Nintendo played it too safe while most of the third Parties didn't put in much effort.
The best things this generation were the Portables, The Downloadable games, and the quality rereleases of older games. The PSP was a gold mine for RPGs and obscure Japanese games this gen, while the DS had good games all around, many of which out shown their console counterparts. There were loads of good Downloadable games across all platforms, which make up the bulk of my favorite games this gen. The VC, XBLA, and PSOne Classics reintroduced me to old favorites and plenty of games I've never even played before. They really make up for what could easily be my least favorite generation. As it stands, though, it's still no better, maybe even a little worse, than the 32/64 bit era.
The seventh generation was a fantastic generation with great innovations like the DS' touch screen controls and the Wii's motion controls and an awesome software line-up on both consoles too. First party highlights for me on the DS and Wii included New super Mario bros., New super Mario bros. Wii, SM64DS, SMG and its sequel, SSBB, Warioware games, Wario land: the shake dimension, AC:WW, the Professor Layton series, MKDS and MKW, Punch-out, Super paper Mario and Xenoblade chronicles. Third party higlights for me included The world ends with you, Phoenix Wright: ace attorney, NMH and its sequel, Little king's story, Zack and Wiki, etc. The digital download stores were brilliant additions to this generation of games too.
There's no love for $600 dollar consoles or red rings of death. Unless you were a retro gaming enthusiast, the seventh gen was a letdown. But even so, Nintendo still deserves some thanks for trying to make things interesting with motion controls.

Sure the seventh generation started out pretty weak from Microsoft and Sony, but they eventually gained steam and are both pretty much at the peak of this generation. I mean Sony did state that the PS3 is set to last for 10 years and they mean it, not so sure about Microsoft but both systems are at the pinnacle of their existence right now. I have the 360 Slim model and the PS3 is at a good price now, especially for a system that's set to last for another 4 years. Nintendo started out very strong and pretty much dominated most of this generation, they have lost some momentum lately with the transition to the 3DS and Wii U but I can't wait for the Wii U regardless, already have a 3DS (actually my first handheld I ever bought, 2nd handheld I ever owned with GBA being the first) so I'm excited regardless. Great 360 titles coming out and a new Nintendo system ^_^
