Blasphemy.

I gave Super Smash Bros. Wii U a fair shake after spending years hearing people (well, the internet) rave about the series. While I didn't dislike it, I just didn''t get too into it. I've thought about giving Smash Ultimate a chance, but I don't think it'll hold my attention long either. Fighting games in general are hit or miss for me; I don't dislike them and quite enjoy the various versions of Street Fighter II, but they just don't hook me in like some other genres.

Another would be Secret of Mana, though in my case it was a victim of overhype more than anything else. There are aspects of the game I like, but I found the combat clunky, the magic overpowered by comparison (with investment), and leveling up both weapons and magic can be quite a grind. At least the music and, to an extend, the plot, were somewhat decent.

@Pizzamorg @Tendo64 Yeah...totally. Been having a hard time getting into the MH games. I played MH3U and MH4U (I spent more time with the latter) - the only weapon I'm good at using is the dual blades, since they're the fastest-hitting weapons in the game, at least early on. Really wanted to get more into the series, and if I did, I would have gotten Rise by now. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

@Tyranexx I actually would have loved to get more into MM - it's just a shame that I got stuck in it early on. I do know that it's more about the side quests than the other Zelda games, perhaps I could focus on those first, if I can find them.

Bravely Default 1. As much as I love the sequel, the first game is such an arduous grind.

There are actually a few:

  • Catherine full body: The puzzles were a chore at some point and turning them off just robbed me of 90 percent gameplay, the story didn't really grab me as well. I expected way more for the price that time.
  • Animal crossing: I never picked it up, just because i can't see why it is interesting in the first place, it just seems boring to me... but i haven't played it, so mayybe i am not one to judge here.
  • Maybe a bit less known here but Death Stranding: I really wanted to like this game and the Story was great but the gameplay of backtracking, getting hunted down and losiong all the cargo, then proceeding to get said cargo back just became such a chore that i quit the game in the end.
  • The world ends with you: Jeez. did i try to like this game, buying the Final remix version, then DS, but i couldn't get into the gameplay at all. Haven't tried the NEO game though.

Didn't enjoy Metroid Prime as much as the 2D Metroid games. I loved Fusion, and recently played Metroid II on 3DS and Metroid Zero Mission on Wii U, and enjoyed those.

Also, didn't like Fortnite when I tried it. I have nothing against battle royale games as I play Apex and Spellbreak occasionally, just didn't enjoy playing it as much as those two.

The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!

Mostly the competitive multiplayer games. Fortnite, Apex, Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc. I'm an old man, my reflexes aren't what they used to be. My presence on any squad is a net-negative on that squad's chance of winning.

@MarioLover92 I do hope you picked up on the fact that I was joking. Majora's Mask (only have played the 3DS version TBH) is one of my favorite Zelda games, but I fully recognize that it's an odd duck and isn't to everyone's liking. The crazy thing is I'm normally not a big fan of time limits in most aspects of life, but the mechanic is manageable enough in the game after a point that it never really bothered me.

The game does rely heavily on side quests and is, arguably, more about its world building than story at times. Kind of like how Xenoblade Chronicles X is to the first Xenoblade Chronicles in that sense, though I'd consider both series to be in different genres.

@Tyranexx Yeah, I'm aware. I could tell by that wink emoticon that you did. I have came back to MM on occasion, hoping that I'd at least get somewhere in it without resorting to a walkthrough. lol

I saw SomecallmeJohnny's review of it from a long time ago, he said that he didn't like it at first, but later on he called it his favorite 3D Zelda game. (My favorite one is Wind Waker HD.) Hopefully the game will grow on me soon enough.

@MarioLover92 I love the games world building, music, and characters, not to mention the whole mask theme and how Link can, essentially, become something else to suit his needs in a given moment. Also, crazy as this is, there's the realization that no matter what you do and how many side quests you complete in a three day cycle, you cannot save everyone.

Dragon Quest 11, Among Us, and Pokemon sun and Moon.

Dragon Quest 11 is just a really generic rpg, and I can't really see what's special about it to be honest, other than the fact that the game is loved by the traditional turn-based rpg crowd. The story of 11 is pretty generic all things considered, and I primarily play RPG's for their stories.

Among Us is fine on it's own, but a group of people in a server I was originally in ended up ruining the game for me, making me grow to hate it. I despise the memes that never seem to stop, and the unfunny jokes that people keep beating, despite it being a decomposed corpse that vaguely resembled a horse.

Pokemon Sun and Moon are well loved games, but I despise them with every fiber of my being to be truthfully honest. The region design is uber linear, and feels like you're navigating long halls that stop you every 3 seconds for a semblance of "story". There's barely any optional areas in the region outside of the routes, and the ones that do exist are also extremely linear in design as well. The main rival is probably the worst rival in the series, outside of the X and Y "rivals", and the fact that the story is about Lillie, and not the main protagonist's journey just kind of rubs me the wrong way.. especially when the game's story would've just been more interesting if they had you play as Lillie instead. The only redeeming thing is the pokemon designs, and that's not even enough to save my sanity when playing this game. I played through it twice, and vowed to never touch it again.

Minecraft. I get why kids love it (and many adults) but I just got tired of it very quickly. I respect for hitting the masses and being a cultural icon (something I respect in every game that does that) but it never clicked on me.

The Witcher 3. I tried to love this game. I really really tried. I loved breath of the wild so I expected the same but the battle system drove me nuts and the experience level was frustrating. Also, every freaking village and world looks the same. I get the appeal for it but there was no chemistry with this game for me.

Kirby games. I think the only kirby game I enjoyed was the NES one. But I find it to be an overrated series. Too simple and way too cute for my taste. I remember when Iwata was alive, we had like 10 kirby games per year. It was annoying.

I am with you on this one. I want more traditional turn based JRPGs when it comes to presenting me actual turn based combat, not turn based combat with loads of crap layered over it but I am happy for them to innovate everywhere else. DQ11 was like a up the ground remake from a game originally made in the early 90s. It was pretty, but almost all of it felt bad to me.

And I know people will say "that is the point" but I just don't get it? Like nostalgia is such a hell of a drug, people act like playing a game missing decades of QOL improvements/innovation is somehow a good thing? Just a bonkers idea to me.

@Solaine I own TWEWY on DS. I've tried it several times, and I just cannot force myself to play past a couple of hours. I really don't like the combat. And I guess so far, the world, universe, story, and characters haven't captured me.

I was also surprised at how much I disliked the original Kingdom Hearts. The level design was SO bad. I think I quit at Tarzan. I haven't played any of the others.

@Gryffin Kingdom hearts was just such a mixed bag and another game i tried to like far too long. I played the first, didn't like it but i heard the second would be far better, then tried to play through that card game where i couldn't get over the gameplay so i just skipped that... afterwards i played and finished birth by sleep which was fine i guess, but not really enough to make me like the franchise so i went for 2 which really had its few ups, but also really annoying downs... then i just stopped after seeing how many more games there are. I guess i disliked everything disney in this game, the convoluted story and the sometimes frustrating gameplay in most of those titles. Can't really say i never liked it, but now i certainly don't.

  • I couldn't get into Xenoblade Chronicles 2, my interest just fell off. Love JRPGs but it didn't hit the right chords for me.
  • I tried the first Mass Effect game years ago and I got bored before anything kicked in. I'd probably really enjoy it these days but at the time something was missing, couldn't tell you what.
  • Resident Evil 4 felt too clunky and I got bored of that too.
  • Bioshock was alright but it never felt like the incredible experience other people seemed to be having.
  • Dark Souls just wasn't fun for me. I like a challenge but the game's playstyle philosophy just didn't mesh with mine.

Sonic games. I've tried a few but none of them clicked and to be honest, they don't even seem to be finished once they come out most of the time. I really couldn't care less about the series anymore. And avid fans of those games eat up anything that the sonic team/director releases. See Balan Wonderland...
Fortnite - I remember that I played the game when it was still new and things like Skins or Emotes were never a thing and it was fun while it lasted but so many people started abusing building so it was never fun to me.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding fall into the same category for me. It's way too much walking around without anything interesting happening. While Horizon had some interesting scenery here and there it got tiresome after a while.

BioShock kept me on to the end, but I found the game a bit repetitive - and the final fight/boss seemed like a bit of an anti-climax.
Can't fault the landscapes and setting though in my opinion - I loved the look of Rapture.

@Tendo64 Totally agree. The style and atmosphere were great, no doubt.

@Maximumbeans Have you ever played the original xenoblade? If not, then that’ll probably click better.
