As the title says, which well-loved Games did you never like?

I'm not trolling but I NEVER liked 'Sonic 2' OR 'Super Mario 64' but DID like the next Game in each respective series (so 'Sonic 3' and 'Super Mario Sunshine').

Also, I COULDN'T get into the GBA versions of Guardian/Gunstar Heroes but did like 'Astro Boy: Omega Factor' (also made by Treasure).

Oh yeah, I also didn't get into the GBA Gunstar Heroes. I like the original now that I've played it, that I'd give it another chance now, but at the time it was really underwhelming to me.

The only beloved games I've never liked are the Gears of War games. Maybe Vanquish too. And even then, I did not play a ton of Gears and Vanquish is one of those games most fans like more after one playthrough and one playthrough is all I did. Eh.

Sonic 1-3, Metroid (any of them so far, I just kinda bounce off of this series), Celeste (I flipping HATE that game), Mass Effect 2-3 (way too many changes to gameplay and lore), Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition (narrative and gameplay lost the plot), Mario 1-3, GTA (also loathe this series), Assassins' Creed 2, undertale...Monster Hunter is kinda on this list but I'm really, REALLY trying to force myself to like Rise.

Not sure if this one is well loved but Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. Pretty much: chasing trends, the videogame and I still feel that game knocked the franchise from great to good.

I have at least tried (or own ) most of the games on this list; so it isn't a knee jerk reaction.

Dance Dance Revolution 2010 on Wii & PS3.
I have those games but i almost never played them as they have very terrible licensed songs, very weak stepcharts, no Edit mode, no Double mode. Only Konami originals songs were better than the licensed songs but still they have weaker stepchart pattern compared with other DDR songs.

Pokemon. I grew up surrounded by people who absolutely loved Pokemon, but I never got into it, due to not finding it appealing based on what I saw of it, and not having my own portable console to play on. I tried Y on 3DS, beat it, but didn't really feel like I was having fun. I know some people who would tell me that it is because I played Y rather than some of the others and maybe that is true. Doesn't mean I am ever willing to give it another chance.

Undertale comes to mind, but admittedly, I have never tried so I can't say for sure. Whenever I saw gameplay though, again, it didn't look that fun to me.

Probably some more that have slipped my mind at the moment. If I remember, I will probably either update this post or do another post in future.

I never like :
1. Rune Factory games because i don't like at all with character design especially their eyes design looks annoying for me, also i never like wimpy bishounen dudes with long hair. Yikes. 😒

2. Smash Bros. Terrible fighting games in my opinion as foursome fight is very unfair and unpredictable. The 1 vs 1 didn't even look interesting for me. 😒

3. Just Dance. What The Heck with this rhythm game ?
Terrible licensed songs choices, awful gameplay, peoples get hyped with this game instead of DDR / BEMANI games with more quality ?? 🤨

4. Among Us. Just awful game with terrible character design.

5. Any realistic racing like Gran Turismo, Forza, etc. Realistic racing games is very boring for me, doesn't look interesting at all in the slightest. I would rather playing cartoonish racing games with items to smack onto opponents and caused some drama, that's what i call racing games.

This is just off the top of my head, based on some of the stuff people have said. I am sure if I really thought about this, I'd really upset some people but....

Firstly, I was not a Nintendo kid growing up or really a Nintendo guy for much of my life. Outside of Gameboys and Pokemon, I'd have had little to no interaction with Nintendo at all before my Switch. As such, I have no real interest in platformers/puzzlers and so I actually have no real interest in any of the pillar Nintendo franchises. I've dabbled a little in all of them, but I'm probably one of the few people playing a Nintendo console without any interest in Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc

Outside of Nintendo, while I love both the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series as a whole, I think 2 is the weakest in the ME trilogy and one of the most overrated games of all time. I also thought Inquisition was just awful and never ended up finishing it.

I don’t think the Assassin’s Creed games were good until they made the RPG approach.

I don’t really like the entire roguelike/lite genre. Every one of them I’ve tried, I’ve never once been convinced the game wouldn’t just be better with just a conventional structure that didn’t require me to play the same stages endlessly.

Don’t really like racing games as a genre, but that’s a bit of a broad sweep, so not really fair. (Mario Kart and maybe Wipeout are the exceptions, but I’m not hankering after new entries.)

Halo is the obvious one to me. Never got into that series. I find it so generic. I’d rather play Turok 2, TBH - at least it has the cerebral bore.

Just thought of another one: Lumines. Supposed to be one of the great puzzle games, but it has never clicked with me. I’ve even bought it a couple of times on different formats (I almost never do that!), to see what I’m missing, but nope.

As of lately, it's Hades for me.

I never actually played a game from this genre before and up until now, I assumed it wasn't gonna be my thing. When it was released I heard so much about how Hades is the perfect game for people who don't like roguelikes, how each run is different, how addicting it is, etc. So I figured I should try this out.

But man, I was right. I really can't get into this game no matter how hard I try. I usually do one or two runs per day but as of lately, I only get halfway into a run before I feel like stopping. So far, I've completed 22 runs and I've reached the final boss 3 times. I know the ending doesn't actually occur until after escaping 10 times but, with the pace I'm going at, the thought of completing this 10 times gives me a headache lol.

This game isn't bad. I really like the voice acting, the art style, and the various different voice lines. I'm also super thankful you can actually save in the middle of runs. However, I just can't get into the gameplay loop.

Add me on switch if you like Xenoblade :)

I did enjoy Gunstar Super Heroes by Treasure, but I also could not get into Astro Boy on GBA. I tried to get into that one a few times, but something about the stage design and pace of the game left me unsatisfied.

I've had trouble getting into major SNES releases. I'm not fond of Axelay(hated the vertical stages), Contra 3(hated the overhead stages), and Castlevania 4(I thought the level design had issues, and I didn't like about half the soundtrack). Also on the system, I had issues with Yoshi's Island and Super Metroid, but I was planning to revisit them and see if my opinion changes. My only issue with Super Metroid is it's more exploration based than I expected as I'm used to the GBA games. But Super Metroid is well made and feels great to control.

I'm sure there are others that I'm missing, but those are the ones that come to mind right now. There are always going to be games that resonate with many people but others just won't like. It's interesting to see what those games are for different people.

Monster Hunter comes to mind. I played a couple of the games, and I just could not get into them. Most of the weapons I could use have this long delay before they actually hit, and that kind of bothers me.

Majora's Mask is one of the few Zelda games I just don't care for. I recognize that it's a beloved game for a lot of people...not for me, unfortunately. I got stuck after like the first part - I explored literally everywhere, and all I got are dead ends. Not the biggest fan of turning back time to day 1, either. I know it makes sense in the context of the game, but it felt a bit too cumbersome for my liking.

@LeighDapa @kkslider5552000 I liked Gunstar Super Heroes, but my biggest problem with that game is that it felt way too short. I was expecting more levels, at least.

Any of the hyperpopular games that cause silly meme after silly meme. So that's Fortnite, Among Us, Fall Guys, Overwatch... I'm more a single-person player, naturally something that means I obviously won't like all these games, which by the way are all multiplayer, and online.

Other than that... I honestly gotta say Smash.

While I love Monster Hunter, fo'real on this. I remember when I first played World and it felt absolutely terrible, I was using the Long Sword which my friend told me was one of the most manoeuvrable weapons on offer and I was just getting animation locked and swinging into space over and over.

I might have quite there and then. However, my friend kept telling me how amazing the games were so I kept going and I got there in the end, but it took me probably like 60 hours of banging my head against the wall before any of it really started to sort of click, come together and actually feel good.

I wouldn't wish that on anybody and I would have likely given up long before I got to that point if I didn't have a friend with me cheering me along. Now, I think Rise is way more accessible than World or Generations Ultimate, but I guess that is more in the context of how much I struggled with World and how much I still struggled with Ultimate, despite having time with World under my belt.

So I fully understand why people bounce right off of the MH games, they are about as niche as a lot of things come these days. And it doesn't help that the MH community can be quite hostile, too. You can get some really crap advice in some of those communities that'll just hurt your experience even further.

@pizzamorg @mariolover92

I gave up on Monster Hunter Rise, which I was gutted about as it was a game I really wanted to like. And I tried hard to get it to click for me.

The reality was, at least for me, it was really difficult for a first-timer to grasp, even after I sunk hours into it.

Writing the game off as 'crap' as I did out of frustration at the time was an overreaction, as I can see why people love it. But the game is as unforgiving and as unwelcoming to new players as I've ever experienced.
