Beat it completely? I don't think so. Help it? Of course, it can especially help with things like depression, because that's what video games are for, to make people have fun.

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
While I don't have the problems the column writer has, I do agree with him. Video games help mental help, either as a hobby you can use to relax and release a bit of stress, or in my case, as a way to take my mind off a problem when I'm overwhelmed by it.
When that happens, I usually concentrate on the game and go back to the problem in a couple of hours refreshed.
And while they aren't going to treat a depression, they can be an outlet for a person who needs some element to be able to express themselves.
As much as people like to complain about it I think Pokemon GO is the master of this. You have a game that forces you to go outside. It also funnels people into small areas and gives them extra rewards for working together. There's this image of this game as a creator of park zombies. The reality is that these people wouldn't be at the park at all if the game didn't reward them for it

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
To me video games work more like an enhancer. I need to be at least a little bit in a good mood. If i feel negative i start to feel even worse when playing because i realise that nothings fun anymore besides sleeping. But yeah if i feel good games usually make me feel better.
Videogames on their own are useless and thats good because that way i have to get my life balanced. Or at least my diet^^
I suffer from depression and ocd. I am an asperger too but this is not an issue for me, in fact I am happy to be that way so this is not my problem, I'm fine with it. Videogames can help you feeling better but they can also become a problem since you can become addicted, and since they help you and make you feel better is very hard to understand how to keep the right balance, or at least how to manage them and get as close as you can to the right balance. There is one thing I can say, my therapist have always been extremely helpful and have always been able to make me feel a lot better, but medicines never worked for me, I tried different kind of medicines and never felt any benefit, but some games are incredibly effective as anti depressant. I think the best example of this is Child of eden. It did miracles for my brain, expecially at first.
