Topic: Video game commercials

Was slacking off during a work day last week and found myself spending nearly an entire day watching old video game and console commercials from the 80s, 90s and 2000s, and it was great to see a few that I hadn't seen in a long time.

It stood out to me that video game commercials have a lot less funny business going on in them today compared with previous eras, and are more to the point of 'here's the game, here's a peak at it, buy the game'.

Thoughts? There's been some memorable ones along the way, what are some of the most memorable ones for you?

I grew up watching them, and yes, they were much better in the 80s and 90s.

I did, however, disdain the trash talking commercials even if the era of being in your face was still exciting. In particular, I hated Sega's trash talk every other commercial towards Nintendo and REALLY hated the Crash Bandicoot going to Nintendo HQ one.

This is why I didn't care much for the very few times Nintendo did bite back with the Starfox "Why go to the next level when you can go light years beyond?" subtle jab at Sega and the promotional Starfox 64 tape (or was it Yoshi's Island 2?) sent to Nintendo Power subscribers where a Sega and Sony agent kidnap a Mario doll.
