30FPS is awful if you're playing competitive multiplayer or just games that have really twitchy mechanics. Developers know this, which is why the likes of Splatoon and Bayonetta try to run up near 60FPS in spite of having to sacrifice a lot of visual fidelity to get there.
TotK is neither of those though, so it's fine. More FPS is always nice, so long as nothing else has to give, but it's looking pretty good for something running on a six year old potato.
I've got the sort of PC setup where I could emulate it at 4K@60 but I'm not going to, at least not yet. There'll be a lot of fan modding required to get the whole experience up to snuff, but Breath of the Wild is already there if you want an idea of what it could be.
I can't really sink my teeth into games before the sixth generation of gaming. They're either too dated or too tough.
When you go in reverse from the fifth generation and before, I'm pretty sure I played each earlier gen less (less fourth gen playtime than fifth gen, for instance). The third generation and before, in particular, I have virtually no interest in. They're almost exclusively history to me, little more.
All of this is why it's so frustrating that Nintendo isn't giving us options for GameCube and Wii games on Switch Online or the eShop. Those are the legacy platforms I am craving.
Nintendo should make a new traditional zelda after TOTK. the last one was 10 long years ago.
I'm loving totk, but 2 games like that is the amount I want, no more. 2d or 3d i dont care. (be amazing if grezzo reused their links awakening assets)
I agree with more classic-style Zelda. Ocarina of Time is the best Zelda game to me, and I really enjoy A Link Between Worlds.
If Nintendo keeps making open-world Zeldas for the foreseeable future, we're looking at a minimum of 5 years in between new games. It makes me wonder if Nintendo's Zelda strategy for the next 10 or so years will be the same as it has been for a while. A new game after 6 years with a remaster and a remake to tide people over in the meantime. A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time seem like the most obvious choices for a remake. A Link Between Worlds was going to be a remake of Link to the Past, but then they made the game its own thing. Ocarina of Time may have had a remake, but that was on the 3DS in 2011. A gorgeous Ocarina of Time remake on the next Nintendo system with buttery smooth controls would sell like hotcakes.
Tears of the Kingdom (while adding a lot of new things and being massive) should've probably taken 3.5 to 4.5 years to develop, not 6 years. Even if it is massive, it's using the same core engine and overworld.
Sixth generation gaming (PS2, Gamecube, XBOX) was my favorite era for having DDR, K-1, Monster Rancher 4, Other BEMANI games, cartoon series / movies to video games.
But I like PS2 more than Gamecube for having the strongest games library for my collection.
@LuigiTheGreenFire I feel that with the 3DS and Wii U eshops dead and naturally physical versions of those systems' games will increase in price essentially destroying the Nintendo Selects pricing, the focus on Zelda games between TotK and BotW 3 will be on bringing the lost 3DS and Wii U games to the current Nintendo system.
The newest zelda popularity was too overrated in my opinion.
If you really have a good taste of gaming, you will not picking too popular / too mainstream games as the underrated or unpopular games sometimes offered more interesting stuffs to play. I'm glad I'm not a cookie cutter in this case.

Oh, goodness, PLEASE let this be so. Remasters of Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks (likely as a paired package) would be interesting, and would add to the Wiimote-like control scheme pile, which is already like, what, four games now?

It’s Nintendo, they would charge $70 a piece for masterpieces such as these.

@Raifteiri The reason why Nintendo won't make a Traditional Zelda anymore is because the developers were tired of the same old formula, which prompted them to make BotW and TotK in the first place. We're most likely never going to go back to the old style of 3D Zelda outside of remakes and remasters of the older games. The 2D Zelda format is even being questioned at the current, even though I feel like that could probably co-exist like it has been.

I think future 2D games are going to be integral to the series. They can give more classic fans the experience they want while the open world games give the newer fans their preference. Although most people are fine with either style.

The remake of The Legend Of Zelda Link's Awakening sold 6,08 million copies. I think that is quite alot for a remake of a game that was almost 30 years old at the time. A Link between worlds sold 4,21 million. There is definitely interest in the 2D style and I am almost certain we will get new games in this style or at the very least remakes. I would not worry about it.
@Jhena I just worry about it because the handheld dev teams merged with the console ones, so outside of remakes we probably won't get a big new 2D game.

The merger happened the year A Link Between Worlds released I think? True this could be a reason for neglecting the old style, but again I am not too worried. Nintendo will Nintendo. Not too long ago Metroid Dread released and also got good sales. Retro styled games are still made and still bought.
It would be very weird if Nintendo contracted an outside developer to make two 2d Metroid games, one of which was a post-Switch 3DS release, but then stopped having the 2D Zelda team make 2D Zeldas when the last 2D Zelda (either ALBW or LA remake, take your pick) sold more than any Metroid game ever.
also while I am sad I can't make the joke that they will sell both of them for full price each, they're obviously not remaking the Oracle games with them casually being released on NSO soon-ish
I suppose you could see Tri Force Heroes as an attempt to make another 2D-ish Zelda, with traditional linear dungeons, and mostly farmed out to a third party in the shape of Grezzo. Unfortunately, the results weren't stellar and it sold poorly.
The numbers are telling Nintendo that spending six years to make vast open world Zeldas is the way to go, and they can fill the intervening period by selling remakes, so I don't think we should be surprised that that's what they're doing.
@Matt_Barber I just wish they'd let Grezzo do a brand new singleplayer Zelda. They've proven themselves with remakes that they're capable of making 2D Zelda titles, and Triforce heroes wasn't a horrible attempt (although it isn't really playable unless you have friends). I just want something more like a Link Between Worlds, but within a brand new Hyrule, and new mechanics.

@VoidofLight I'd certainly like to see them get another go a it, and perhaps the next Zelda release will be just that. It'll presumably be another six years before the next open world epic is ready and even in terms of re-makes we'd mostly be looking at porting the ones made for the 3DS and Wii U.
My main point is that it's something that's been tried and I can see why they weren't in a rush to follow it up. Still, it's been nearly eight years now, so perhaps they've had enough time to reflect on what could have been done better.
I was talking to someone the other day and games came up and I mentioned I liked platformers. They immediately said 'you must like Hollow Knight then'. First off, that's definitely not the thing I would jump to when I hear the word platformer. Sure, metroidvanias have platforming, but platforming is not the whole point of them. Second, although I really like metroidvanias as a genre, I was never able to get into Hollow Knight. Something about it just makes me lost constantly. I think I prefer metroidvanias that are just a smidgen more linear or at least have different types of maps. I acknowledge it intellectually as a good game, but it's far far from my personal favorite in that (sub) genre.
