@Ralizah
I actually agree on Origami King being the best. And while the battle system isn’t as good as the original games, I do think the boss battles are the best in the series. The lack of XP is also kind of good. In the earlier games combat becomes annoying at the end, but you can’t avoid it because you will be under leveled. In Origami King, if I didn’t want to battle then I didn’t battle. Plus solving the puzzles felt more rewarding than spamming power jump in every battle.

on the note of original characters, I don’t think the fan base will ever be satisfied. Take professor toad for example. Unique outfit and personality, but fans will still say he is just a normal toad. Then they will point to a random green toad with hair braids as a completely original character and the peak of character design.

@blindsquarel lmao ikr

People had a point with the lack of original characters in Sticker Star, because Sticker Star was totally devoid of personality. But the NPCs and partners in TOK are bursting with personality. That's more important to me than a character wearing a funny hat.

I... understand why people would have issues with the battle system, but I actually liked it. A lot more thought went into battles. It wasn't just spamming jump and hammer attacks endlessly like in the older games.

The boss fights are pretty cool mechanically, although I understand why people have issues with them being arts & crafts tools. The original character bosses in the older games were more interesting. But they serve their purpose well enough.

Where TOK really shines over previous entries for me is in the level design. Environments are so much more interesting and dense in this, especially compared to the hallway-like overworld sections in TTYD. The music is superb as well. The narrative elements are surprisingly strong. And, of course, it goes without saying that the presentation is phenomenal.

There are some things that bother me about new Paper Mario on a basic level of personal enjoyment, but stuff like creative character designs just comes across as some sort of failing of development time, or creative license or possibly corporate approved something something. It's just weird, why would I not want more variety in appearances and names for characters? No one on Earth actively wants that.

I'm still considering getting Origami King myself at some point. It's very rare I actively disagree on a well liked enough game, especially from Nintendo, so I'd presumably like it. Perhaps a lot! But the entire Paper Mario saga has just worn me down and doing a better version of Sticker Star, no matter how much better, just feels like too little too late for me. I don't wanna buy a full priced game if stuff unrelated to it is gonna make me more negative towards it.

1. Fire emblem is nintendos worst big franchise (I’ve played fe3h and engage)

2. Deltarune is better than undertale

3. I blame Sony for the N64 disk drives failure. (Earthbound 64 my beloved).

I fear no man
but that thing:
The carrot minigame from bowser's inside story
it scares me

I prefer Sticker Star over than Origami King in term of gameplay.
I still like the 3D stickers summon in Sticker Star like Final Fantasy Eidolon.

I didn't mind sticker star at all, but its probably my least favorite of the PM series. I'm not all that crazy about the M&L series though. That's my unpopular opinion.

I couldn't go past like 10 minutes of Origami King without getting bored and moving on and is probably my worst Switch purchase besides Starlink.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy there.

NintendoByNature

@hotgoomba Maybe you should try the first couple of hours and come back to us. It's actually a great game once you get into it.

@HotGoomba
I honestly felt that way about the opening of paper Mario 64. I was bored and it felt like a waste of time, so I put it down. Recently I tried the game again and once I got past the opening I discovered that it was an amazing game with a ton to offer.

Basically what I am trying to say is that judging a game by a slow opening isn’t a good idea, and can often cost people amazing experiences.

Mario Kart Super Circuit is the most underrated Intelligent Systems game and controls better than Super Mario Kart.

@Grumblevolcano Saying that Super Circuit controls better than Super Mario Kart is like saying that stepping on a pin is less painful than stepping on a nail.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy there.

@Grumblevolcano Super Circuit is great. Its just that it's two main gimmicks (being portable and including classic tracks) are pretty meaningless these days. It was fantastic at the time, but I don't blame anyone for not revisiting it these days.

Super Metroid is an extremely overrated video game with poorly-placed and annoying enemies (especially ones that can catch you off-guard, can't be defeated with some weapons, and ones with annoying attacks), finicky and complicated controls (turning takes a few frames, the Space Jump doesn't always work, and selecting items such as Super Missiles and Power Bombs for example), roadblocks that don't give you subtle clues (such as having to use Power Bombs to break a tube that isn't cracked at all), an obnoxious sound effect that plays everytime you lose health, an unskippable intro, and poorly-made and obnoxious bosses (most of them, at least like both encounters with Ridley, Kraid, Crocomire, the one in the abandoned ship, Draygon, Mother Brain (first phase), and almost all the mini-bosses/sub-bosses).

I actually thought it was alright the first couple of times, but the more I experienced the game's glaring flaws (especially the obnoxious sound effect that plays everytime you lose health and most of the bosses), the more I wanted to stop playing or rage-quit the game (and I later did, for good).

Now it's actually one of my least-favourite/worst video games of all-time.

Super Mario Kart is awful

While I wouldn't go as far as to call it 'awful' myself, I definitely think it's the weakest entry by a country mile. Even 64 (a game I have PLENTY of issues with) is far more enjoyable than Super IMO.

My unpopular opinion: Rusty's Real Deal Baseball with its 10 games bought will become a 3DS hidden gem.

As for the Paper Mario discussion, this is something I want to add/ask, and I've been meaning to do it for a while: What makes Paper Mario be Paper Mario? Is it the paper aesthetics? The RPG gameplay? The unique characters? The writing? Or all of the above?

I played through The Thousand-Year Door, Super, Sticker Star and The Origami King, currently in the last stretch of Color Splash (yeah, haven't played the N64 game).
I liked SS, but I can see why so many dismiss it. If I had dismissed it, I probably would've dismissed CS and TOK as well, and I'm glad I didn't. Otherwise I would've missed on their golden writing.
TTYD at times made feel like calling it quits, particularly during the second half of the game.
I agree SS is the weakest game in the series, though.

Rusty's Real Deal Baseball is now a hidden gem of the Nintendo 3DS.

@Dev9417 Is this unpopular? I thought it was one of the most appreciated games in the series. Personally I remember loving it, although I don't remember many specifics.

@HotGoomba I wouldn't say Super Mario Kart is awful...it was truly revolutionary at the same, and I personally find it kinda fun today. But it was outdated as soon as Mario Kart 64 arrived...and Nintendo have outdone it an additional 6 or so additional times since then. Even moreso than Super Circuit, there's not much reason to go back to it.
